People say things on this forum because they are sheep. Fish oil is highly overrated in healthy teenagers and adults on this forum. If you want EFA's then by all means get them from enjoyable foods.

Loki would largely disagree with you. EPA/DHA are in no way, shape, or form, overrated.

In the amounts recommended on this forum they are actually counterproductive. Don't mince words.....EFA's (i.e. EPA/DHA) should come from food and are very important.

Its not overrated, its popular because its good and it works. I can say from experience so please dont make claims about people being sheep when you know nothing about the person.

People are sheep...especially around here. So since you are so experienced why don't you enlighten me as to how taking over a gram of fish oil per day has helped you achieve your physique goals. I'm genuinely curious.

Well im not and im sure others dont appreciate being called one eather. Since I started taking fish oil I notice faster recovery after a workout. When I wake up in the morning my joints dont feel as sore and its helping me with my flexibility. Anything else you would like to know?

I take 2 Optimum Nutrition Softgels a day as recommended on the bottle. 1 softgel contains:
1,000mg fish oil
180mg EPA
120mg DHA
so double that a day, just doing what the bottle says to.

For me, 2-4G a day helps immensely with mood support. I also find that it's easier to drop weight when I'm taking fish oils. That's largely qualitative, though.

Have to agree with ZombieGore, I experience the same benefits. Plus supplementing with EFA's has a lot of other health benefits, considering this I wouldn't call it over rated

a very true statement.
Fish oil may be good for health however it won't do much for your bodybuilding goals.

Do you know the negative impact that has on blood clotting, LDL-C levels, etc? Anything over a gram a day, which seems to be the cool thing to do around here, is counterproductive if you don't suffer from cardiovascular disease. It also counteracts many positive inflammatory processes when taken in excess (over 1 gram in healthy adults).
I highly recommend you all read the following if you have the time among many others:
Elvevoll EO, Barstad H, Breimo ES, Brox J, Eilertsen KE, Lund T, Olsen JO, Osterud B. Enhanced incorporation of n-3 fatty acids from fish compared with fish oils. Lipids. 2006 Dec;41(12):1109-14.

If it was not a healthy, why would it be reccomended by so many doctors, researchers, physicians, etc?
ps.....i am not arguing.....just asking
I just read several articles supporting your claim....looks like I am dropping down to a gram a day! yikes!

Des. A question kind sir..
Is it safe for me to give my 13 year old boy, who plays a lot of sport and especially soccer for the local centre of excellence, 1x1000mg omega 3 cap per day?

No medical professional will recommend the amount you are taking unless you had EXTREMELY high serum tryglyceride levels or some forms of CVD. As usual, broscience reigns supreme on the forum.

You certainly have a point. In that case I might recommend a nominal amount of fish oil caps. However, people who are tying to meet EFA calorie requirements with fish oil caps are severly misquided.

A high EPA content compared to DHA content is what you are looking for in this case...not just omega 3. It has the ability to raise the ratio of phosphomonoesters to phosphodiesters.

Why not some fish or a tuna sandwhich? I don't like the idea of kids popping any pills at a young age just because it gives the sense that pills solve problems that can be solved otherwise.
