Any opinions on the York ST? Theres one on CL local for $400, in real good condition. Is it worth it to spend a couple hundred more for a new one?

It is a nice, solid bench. I have owned it before and I believe if you do a search Keetman also owned it and did a review. $400 is a fair price and you should be able to turn around and sell it again for $400 if you do not like it. $300 or $350 would be better, but I think $400 is fair and GHD's do not come up all that often depending on your area.

Thanks for the reply.. The guy is firm on the price.. I am desperately waiting on a return email from a guy selling a power-lift ghd for $300.. The ad is 2 days old, I bet its sold.. :crossing fingers:

I did have it (at least I think, its Yorks white GHD with the roller thigh pads?). I think I bought mine for $300, used it for a couple years or a year, then sold it for $450. It was a decent machine, not my favorite of the several I've owned, but I'd buy it again if I didn't have one and it was available. It had a decent footplate, stable base, and was lower to the ground (which I found more comfortable and allows for more adaptable home use....when you're sitting up on the bench, many people would hit the ceiling on a machine that's too tall). The handle bars were nice too. It was adequately adjustable, but the one I had temperamental knobs and the nylon slides were difficult to move the pieces on. The worst part (for me) was the roller pads. Mine had a bad part in the roller, so I'm not sure if it was just the particular unit or not, but it dug into my thigh. Even if it was just mine, I'm certain the new oversized semi-circular GHR pads (on the new Elite benches, for example) are far superior and comfortable.
It probably sounds like I have a lot of gripes about this machine, but remember....I don't have a whole lot of requirements from a GHR....it basically just provides a lock in point for your ankles and thighs. I like a good footplate, a very stable base, good adjustments, and a comfortable pad. Anything else can be worked around. The York provided most of these and the thigh pads weren't so uncomfortable to be an issue if you found one for the right price. At $400 you can afford to try it and if you don't like it or find a better one, you'll likely get your money back or close to it.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

I actually used one for the first time today at Serra Brazilian Jui Jitsu in Long Island NY. I did 3 sets of 10 ghr and it was solid plus it was very easy to adjust! I think you will be happy with it.

I had to brag a bit here.......I picked up the York ghd a few months back for........125!
The guy had no idea what it was worth. I paid what he listed it at. It's a heavy sucker. You won't get any play at all when performing movements on it. My issue is that I hardly use it. I just had to buy it at the price I saw.Last edited by FastCatChamp; 01-24-2012 at 07:09 PM.

Not sure what the going rate actually is on a York God, sounds like you did good though. Sorry you can't get any play out of him when trying to make your move, seems selfish on his part.
Wait, wut?
Just kidding, nice job and great score. $125 is what I sold a Yukon GHD I got my hands on and I don't even like those. I'd pick up a York tomorrow if I found it for that price just to make some money.
I would suggest you use it more though, its a great exercise. Good luck.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

ah ok. i bought one for 150 once and resold it for that. didn't have room and i found a smaller stamina one. not quite the same but it has 4 roller pads and a foot plate so i can still come straight up. holding me over till i get a elite one
edit: the one i had was a TDS one. the colors were similar threw me off.Last edited by matrix563; 01-25-2012 at 05:00 AM.

This one?
It sucks and I don't think its ever been sold at walmart, I could be wrong though. Its not sturdy, it doesn't adjust close enough to the knee pad to do the GHR, and I've heard stories that pieces of it have broken while using.
I wouldn't pay 25 for one unless I was going to sell it.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

alright so I've never used a GHD before. How does doing it on a dedicated piece compare to doing ghetto GHD's on the floor (which I love)?
been thinking about rigging a cross member between the safeties in my rack to hold my feet down.Boomer Rep Crew #1

So I picked it up today.. $400 firm but I am very happy with it.. Especially for the first time seeing one, I was on the fence about it..After all the advice, threads and how often guys use them such as geek, I pulled the trigger.. I will admit I was overwhelmed by the size and weight of this..
The foot plates are small, but it's fine.. They are bolted on, and the head of the bolts are counter sunk. I have a customer through work where I can get.free diomond plating and another customer that will cut it to size.. I can drill the holes and rebolt.on the new ones..
Edited to add... Thanks guys for the advice repping everyone..▪██─────██▪ Ivanko Barbell Crew #3 ▪██─────██▪

Is that white or silver?
It looks really good, as long as you end up liking it...its a fine deal at $400. Like I said, I sold mine for $450 and I think they sell new for $600, but not positive. GHR's are one of those items that can be sold at a higher price because they don't ever come up (people who get them know what they are and why they want them, so they seldom unload them). Deals can be had, but they are few and far between. I got the one that Animal has for $200 and that's the cheapest nice one I've come across even with all my deals.
Good luck, have you tried it yet? Its pretty humbling if you haven't used one before. Keep at it though, it doesn't really get "easier", but it becomes more doable .▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #4 ▪█─────█▪

The color is grey. He got it straight from York. Its only a couple months old.. New its listed @ $850 every where.. He has a crossfit gym with aaprox 60 members. He had 2 of these.. Said there were to many members to incorporate them into classes.. Sold the white one last night and I had dibs first so I took the grey. I did try it and yes its humbling, but I expected that..

Yeah thats the one, I missed the toe plates. How bad could it possibly be? Can always drill more holes to increase adjustability, and bolt it down to a sheet of plywood to increase stability. I've only seen one ghd on craigs list, but $270 might be a bit too much for a Wal mart piece.
I'd pay $25 for it lol

Bump! Haha
Is this unit still a good purchase at $400(CAD)? Or is it better to go with the Titan at this point?
How are the pads holding up for anyone that's been using it long term? There's two negative reviews on Rogue Canada for this piece and both talk about the padding which makes me leery seeing as this particular unit is coming out of a crossfit gym and has probably seen a few knees in it's day.
Thanks guys and gals.▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #54 ▪█─────█▪

I did not like the York ST GHD.
1. Very easy movement with the rollers and knee shelf compared to a half-moon pad with no knee shelf. I could do 10+ with a weighted vest on the York. With the Rogue Abrams, I could do 4 when I first got it with just bodyweight.
2. Very easy to tip for me. I had to put 2 50lb dumbbells on the back to keep it from tipping. I was ~250lbs when using it.
3. Adjustments are an absolute PITA. Multiple knobs to unscrew and then pop them out. Then pop in and rescrew down. Bought it from a crossfit gym who was selling it for that same reason - just really annoying to make adjustments.
For personal use, I wouldn't even consider a York ST GHD.Garage Gym Owner
