honestly I dont think that matters as much as you think. At that age skill, intelligence (field vision, use of blocking, patience), and speed are more important... Strength can be cultivated in a S&C program at uni.

Do you think top tier talent in any similar sport gets their 17-18 year old players in the gym to work on powerlifting numbers instead/over skill and technique work?

Many players will come in with good to great strength from the off season strength programs but specific #s are largely irrelevant at that point...

BRB not selecting a RB because he can only run 4.6 40s but not bench 285 or OHP 190.

Coaches over hype strength and testing but football is an endurance sport and not how hard you hit, but its how hard you can get hit and keep on moving forward.(lil rocky quote but its true) as long as you have the fundamental skills and can play the game then you will be fine. There are tons of inner city kids who schools dont even have a weightroom or havent even squatted until they have gotten to college. But the thing is they can BALL! DOnt get me wrong weightlifting and SHOULD be put into a program but football is not all about strength but it is knowing that you gave it your all at the end of every practice and game and sacrificed every drop of energy for your teammates, your school and your town.
Have a good season and good luck training
