Buying a new LCD LED 3D TV for PC and Xbox360
Hey guys, im in the market for a new LED TV for my PC and XBOX and i've done some research but im still confused on some things.
Im thinking of getting a LG 42LW6500 and require more of a second opinion rather than hard specs.
I appologize for the wall of text, you dont have to read it as my enquiry is above but please do as the following is the background info for how i arrived at my decision:
Requirements:
*I need the TV to be 40" give or take 2"
*Money is no issue
*Best picture quality possible
*Planning to make use of 3D gaming and movies
I was about to buy a Samsung UA40D6600 as it seemed to be the best 40" they made. Until i dug a little deeper.
I was unable to find ANY useful specs on the spec sheets for any sony or samsung TVs. Not contrast ratio, not response time, not even a refresh rate! How am i supposed to compare TVs if the things that i've been told make the biggest differences, are not advertised? Am i supposed to just buy the most expensive one and hope its the best?
Anyway, as i was doing my research, i saw an article about beef between sony samasung and LG on LG's Passive 3D and their claims that 85% of people favoured their passive 3D over sony and samsungs active 3D.
My #1 concearn with 3D was that gaming for long stretches would be way too strenuous on my eyes and brain, but with passive 3D this would be alot less prominent. Add to that LG's FULL SPEC SHEET that samsung and sony can both learn from, and i think im going with LG 42LW6500 can anyone offer me some advice here? Is there another TV im missing? Have i overlooked something?

Brb writing a new title
last time i check the KDL40HX729 was pretty awesome for the price. 240hz, infinite dynamic contrast ration bull****, built in wi-fi adapter and a web browser is pretty badass. the remote is ****ty for web surfing so just download the free sony app (if you have a smartphone) and it gives you a crapload more options.
Of course, i am a huge samsung fan. if money is no object, just get either the un40d7000 or the un40d8000

I dont think we have those here brah, ours are UA40D6600 there are no 7 or 8 series 40" screens, i wish there was. My only concern is the 3D of sony and samsung screens being active and would definitely give me a headache. LG's 3D is passive, alot milder on the brain/eyes.

there is no 8000 for 40''. 46 is where you find them.
40 inches, the sony is your best bet if you want 240hz. Also, you won't get a headache..I've got 2 240hz samsung led's. a 9000 and 7000. no isssues brah.

I would reccommend the Sony as well. In my opinion, they have the best overall LEDs. If you are after the best picture possible, have the TV calibrated. That will help tremendously

Thanks for the input brah but i was talking about the 3D giving me a head ache, not just the tv itself.
Also as i mentioned earlier, its hard to compare the US models with AUS because theyre different, we dont have a 40" 7000, 8000 or 9000 model, the highest they go is 6600

I have this TV (LG 42LW5700):
http://www.lg.com/ca_en/tv-audio-vid...v-42LW5700.jsp
Two of my friends have the same type, albeit a 55" and a 42" 240hz one.
But it's been great so far, especially considering what I paid for it ($689 canadian). Quite honestly, there isn't a significant difference between passive and active 3D. But if you're lucking for best quality, definitely get a 240hz one. Makes everything so much smoother (in motion).
Headaches are gonna occur no matter what, more so if you already wear glasses. It also depends on the 3D content. I find that the IMAX 3d films give me the most headaches. But animated films like Cars 2 or lion kings are very easy on the eyes. And glasses are cheap/easily replaceable. Good if you have a big family and friends over.
There's a few things about active 3d that bothers me though.
- makes the picture pretty dark
- flickering
- expensive glasses
- limited view scope. meaning you can't tilt your head and have to be at a certain position to properly view 3d.
But there are also some things that I don't like about the LG.
- smart tv functions are slow (other than netflix)

I have just sold my Sony 46 inch Kdl ex 720 because it has 50 ms of lag.
I would recommend the Samsung Ps51d550 , 15 ms lag and way way better picture. However to avoid burn you have to avoid static images lik health brs or turn your contrast and brightness settings right down. This panel is she same as in the flagship plasma, and you can even access the 10 point adjuster through the service menu. I don't know how the flagship model ,8000 I think, handles input lag so that's why I can't recommend it.
I won't buy another LCD tv over 30 inches.

Wow people dont actually read threads anymore do they, you all just post.
Every single post has recommended TVs over the size i need, and advised me against TVs that i'm not even looking at?
Where did i ask about the 46" Kdl ex 720???
and that samsung you mentioned is 51"
Forget it i think i need a 3D TV dedicated forum.
Thanks guys im out

I have 2 samsung UA40D6600 in my house, the quality is amazing.
I also work at Dick Smith, they are easily the best televisions around atm.
Unless you want to wait for the oled and then pay an extra few grand on top of it what you're looking at now..
