Point of 5x5?
5x5 is a great strength program for beginners. It is the perfect program to milk your beginner gains. I started on the generic of 3 sets of 10 reps i just wish i was more knowledgeable on all the different programmes before I starting 'Pumping Iron'
For intermediate trainees, the evolution of 5x5 was 3x5 (which is what i moved onto and was great) You warm up throughly, then do one light set of 5, another slightly heavier (but still light) set of 5, then you do three sets with your working weight. I got my strongest lifts by following the 5x5 then progressing onto the 3x5 aswell as putting on more muscle than following a 8 rep + programme
