Why are Americans so against taxes?

Why not pay a little extra but have society living better as a whole, so much greed...downfall of man kind.

Because paying extra taxes doesn't automatically mean the whole society will be living better. We also have the highest corporate tax in the developed world.

Regulate what? Government? That seems to be impossible.

How much tax should one pay in your opinion?

High taxes only fuel big government which only leads to less economic growth and a dependency on government for support.

LOL @ 18 year old logic.

I like to get what I pay for. In other words, if I go to a fancy restaurant, I want top notch service and good food since I'll be paying a lot for it.

According to my W2, I paid nearly $20k in taxes between state, federal, and SS. Not to mention the taxes on gasoline, vehicle reg fees, and other BS.

I really haven't seen anything worth $20k in the last year; unless you count all the new uncontitutional sh!t that comrade Owebama is passing?

Think of the billions spent on the payroll for politicians, Owebama's camp, house speakers, and the like. Now compare that to the piddly pay that soldiers make (by comparison) Doesn't seem like our tax money is being well spent.

lol at bringing up greed. If you think the government promotes virtue and charity and that government will always act in the best interests of all citizens, that is completely false. some people (myself included) see taxes as immoral.

to OP: it's a good idea, but too many americans think socialism is inherently a bad thing which is why we don't have the proper system to implement it correctly as of right now. hopefully that changes because i do want to see my country actually have good social institutions one day that benefit errrbody

Having lived in Scandinavia I can attest that there's good and bad with the welfare/new-socialist model.

Pro's are low levels of poverty related crime and universal healthcare. Negatives are huge waste of money (you wouldn't believe it) on bureaocracy and just wasteful spending (massive amounts of taxes get wasted on paper pushers). Also, while universal healthcare gives everyone access to healthcare it also means there is no competition, which leads to loads of complacent doctors and sloppy treatment.

All in all, would wastly prefer an insurance based free market system.

Corporate America is greedy. Seriously it's pathetic.

BRB being bankrupt because I got sick.

BRB spending billions and trillions of dollars fighting a pointless drug war and fighting in the middle east, while people in your own country have terrible educations and ridiculous healthcare.

BRB new "Obamacare" is a socialist program, USA is worse than the USSR now.

Greed and propaganda and corruption rule America.

because their government doesn't know how to spend tax money. it's not as if taxation creates more money, as soon as the money hits the government most of it gets burned by the bureaucracy or given to criminal bankers

Taxes aren't the problem. The government is. We already have a record defecit from their spending and the country is no better off then before. Why give them more money?

I have no problem with taxes, I have a problem with the wasteful government spending that causes taxes to increase annually.

Example: ODB, a millionaire at the time, took a limo with his wife and 45 kids to the welfare office to pick up foodstamps.

to OP: it's a good idea, but too many americans think socialism is inherently a bad thing which is why we don't have the proper system to implement it correctly as of right now. hopefully that changes because i do want to see my country actually have good social institutions one day that benefit errrbody
Socialism: not inherently a bad thing.

Because it doesn't work that way. The government is never satisfied and always wants more taxes.

Also, more taxes do not solve problems. They create more problems.

Hell, the govt keeps spending trillions of dollars more. Are problems getting solved? No.

And besides, if you don't even live here, then you have no say in the matter.

Shouldn't you be occupying something? Governmental institutions are the reason we're in the mess we're in.

Yes, we do think that socialism is inherently bad. We don't want it. America was founded on the idea of freedom. Socialism is not freedom, so we don't want it.
