Dextrose Post-Workout. Necessary/Beneficial?
I've been workout out since I was about 17 (24 now) and have just been recently hearing about dextrose post workout. I've been reading up that simple carbohydrates are best to consume right after a workout with whey or another fast digesting protein. I have usually just taken whey right after my workouts, and by the time I got home (an hour later) I would eat something like chicken, brown rice, and vege's.
I am currently training kickboxing and greco-wrestling for about 2-3 hours a day, mixed with some weightlifting and conditioning type workouts. I was wondering, is it necessary and/or beneficial to take dextrose or other simple carbohydrates post workout or should I stick to just whey followed by a meal with some type of meat (fish, chicken, etc.) and complex carb (brown rice, etc.)?
Thank you all in advance, reps for knowledgeable answers.

Not necessary, not really beneficial. Whey postworkout is fine.

Try cell tech. It has a lot of dextrose in a post workout drink

not totally necessary, but pretty cheap and i think still a decent supplement to put in your post-workout protein shake. i only supplement with protein, creatine, and dextrose. dextrose in a post-workout shake will help replenish your glycogen stores in your muscles, and create an insulin spike which will tell your body to transport nutrients into your muscles, which will reverse the effects a workout has on you - raising your cortisol levels and breaking down tissue.

The whey protein will also have an insulinogenic response, dextrose is not necessary.

If you want carbs post WO, blend up some oatmeal into your protein shake. Works great for me!

Nothing wrong with a little dextrose in your post workout shake or drinking it while you train. Give some Ast Vp2 and Ast dgc a try. Cytomax is another great recovery drink.

I take about 80g of sugar, I mix maltodextrin and dextrose.

I sometimes will use a "recovery" protein (or just mix some carbs in my post workout drink) but not for any sort of insulin/glycogen reason...just for extra calories.

If you're a hardgainer I think it can help a lot. It does provide quite a bit more insulinotropic response than whey alone, and as a hardgainer, you're gonna need those extra carbs to put on weight.
Since you're training 3 hours a day doing lifting, wrestling, MMA etc, I would say there's a pretty good case for having a higher carb intake. It can't hurt to experiment with some type of carb PWO for a little bit.

First it was cool, than it's not
Just like eating post workout...first it was important, than suddenly it's not.
or glutamine...once it was great stuff, than it's garbage
or CLA, once it was beneficial, than it was garbage, now it's beneficial again

Lol wut. It's because new research has emerged? You know science...an ever-changing field? CLA is still not worth it btw.

Really appreciate all the replies. Firstly, i'm not really a "hardgainer". I currently weigh 143 @ 5'5, i;m just short as f*ck. Also, i'm not trying to bulk because I fight, so I need to stay lower in weight to maintain my endurance.
It seems like the topic has a lot of mixed opinions, though. Should have opened up a poll.

It is possible that new research can emerge, but CLA has been well-studied to date.

OP ask yourself what is the benefit of dextrose post over your current post routine of whey and then a meal? Absolutely nothing! As long as your taking in sufficeint total cals to fuel your activities your good.

I really enjoy taking Dextrose with my post workout shake, I find it helps with prolonging the pump feeling while negating day after muscle soreness

If 25g of carbs stop DOMS, it's time for me to release a groundbreaking product.

Just don't do what I did and use a protein scoop for the dextrose, completely forgetting grams is a measurement of weight not volume. Massive overdose. Gained 1kg of fat in a fortnight and only 0.2kg of muscle. If you are going to do it use like only 2 tablespoons at most.
