Texas SS Power Rack for 400$?

I emailed them asking if they had one for around a 400$ budget, they replied with the above.
I live in Texas so I can pick it up.
Is this a good deal? I'm not sure on the specifics of racks, so I'm not sure was 2x2 means and the spacing.
I'd have to drive around 4 hours round trip to pick this up. (So it'd come to about 450$ total)

I assume the one they are talking about is non-painted.
As for Craigslist, I've been looking for almost 2 months now for one. There was one Weider one but the setup on it was horrible. Since then I've seen none and in all honesty, I'd like to get to squatting, getting tired of waiting around.
If the squat rack Texas Strength Systems is offering for 400$ is worth my time, I will go pick it up.
I saw one on Amazon, a powerline for 300$ shipped, but I heard it only has a weight limit of 600 pounds.
I can't squat that much, but if I drop 350 on it from 6 feet in the air, I'm not sure how much I would trust it.

Sounds like you have your mind made up. You just need a little push. My advice would be to stop waiting around, get it and start lifting.

I'm looking for someone knowledgeable on the subject to post why or why not I should do this.

Texas strength systems racks have been viewed favorably around here, they seem to be a mid-quality power rack from what I can tell (never owned one). 2x2 is the size of the steel frame square tubing, 2 inches by 2 inches. And 2 inch hole spacing is the distance between the holes used to adjust your j-hooks and spotter bars. A rack with weight storage is a big plus because its helps a ton with the stability of the rack when weight is stored on it, with enough weight on it it can be almost like bolting the rack to the floor.
$400 sounds like it could be a reasonable deal but I would ask to see some pics first since its used and make sure its in good enough shape so you don't waste a long drive picking it up for nothing.

i would not buy a used rack for 400...seems like too much money for something that will come up online for much cheaper.
then again, in a month you won't even miss the money....
weight storage is nice

Id be suprised if you could find a better rack for <$450 (as long as the used one is on par to there current ones)
I bought my sh*tty weider power rack about 6 months back and Im starting to already outgrow it. I look for racks occassionally through CL in my area, but only other weiders or package $3,000 deals and those are few and far between
With the Texas Strength you can also keep upgrading it with their dif attatchments.

I personally would take it.. If its used theres a 50% chance its painted. The weight stack is a extra $245. And shipping quote to me in NJ was $400. I see it as a good deal.

how do you out grow a rack? did it break into 10 pieces?
attachments will costs more money, i saw a monkey bar attachment and it was like 100+ USD, almost all the other attachment are 200+... might as well DIY and save money, which can be done in any rack.
if the OP wants 1 now, I think that's a good deal, the weight storage rack is worth at the very least 30-50 bucks on it's own (even if you were to try and built one into your rack).
and the rack will ship to him, save times/money driving around...
and don't worry too much about the weight limits of these racks.
1) They're almost always lower rated than they can handle. you will not break it by putting 650 pounds on a 600 pounds rated rack.
2) If you're dropping 600 pounds at 6' down, the force is well over 7000 pounds, there's no rack out there that will rate up to 7000 pounds.
3) Most people will not drop the weight standing up, that's crazy, I've squat and bench, I've failed, but most of the time it's because i can't get it up, not because I can't go down.
the equipment crew people will jump in and probably tell you "just be patience and wait on CL..." since you already waited 2 month, i think getting it now would be ok...

A weider rack may have a fairly low weight capacity. I had one some time ago which had a booklet stating a 300 lbs capacity for the j-hooks. Replacing those and the pins could make it last longer, bmaybe indefinitely, but honestly I was just ready for something nicer by then.
A lot of weider racks are pop-pin, though, so you can't replace those.

Keeping it simple
On CL you can find 2x2 power rack w/ 2" hole spacing for like $300 w/o the weight racks. I would only consider buying it, if the drive isnt too far. Where i live it is 4 hrs away and w/ gas prices like they are, i would spend like an extra $150 in gas.
IF you look at their new power racks, they sell em for $450 unpainted (and thats w/ 1inch hole spacing, and 2.5x 2.5 steel). So you could save up some money and buy a new one that has beter hole spacing.
A new one unpainted w/ weight storage is $675.
I would ask him if he would consider selling a used rack for $350 and if he says no I would just save up money for a new one. If he does say no, make sure you tell him that you will save up money and buy a new one from him at a latter time.
It surprises me how many people refuse to buy equipment from Elitefts because its too expensive but they will buy equipment from their competitors, then continue to go on EFS website regulary to educate themselves for FREE

Not much knowledge is needed this isn't brain surgery. For reference a popular rack here is the powertec rack and it's 12 gauge steel that holds 1000 pounds. Lower gauge stronger steel. Ask the guy what gauge the Texas Power Rack is, my assumption is that it is at least 12 if not 11 gauge. For us novices I doubt you will put anywhere near the maximum load the texas power rack can withstand. For peace of mind the texas power rack is a good choice. You wont have to worry about load limits like you will have to with the cheaper powerline.
Why you shouldn't is, you can come across a cheaper maybe higher quality rack on CL but then again you have been waiting for two months and you haven't found anything. If you have time to wait, keep scouring CL for that deal that comes every great while or get the rack now and start your work out routines.
Hole spacing is a personal preference, you typically want to go with lower hole spacing for greater ROM.

This looks like a good deal to me. It would help if you can find out more info. Is this one of their standard racks seen on the website? If you can save on the shipping cost as they happen to be in your area i'd say its a go. I like the idea you can add pieces to it as well. That's my two bits.

This. The beefier rack is worth the extra cash.

Get some pictures of the rack and the gauge of steel used, then we can give you some better opinions.

Can't post a link because of my post count, but if you go to their website there is a link to used equipment. From there you can see pics of two used racks.
Personally, I wouldn't buy either. Your power rack is going to be the most important thing in your home gym and you will be using it constantly. You don't want to skimp. Wait until you find a good deal on craigs and be prepared to spend more than 400 when you do.
