Enough that honeycombs, whiskering and fading will become misplaced. I wouldn't wash them.

Here is a "general" guide for unsanforized denim...

If you plan to wash these jeans, order a larger size. For your waist, increase 1” for sizes 27-36”, 2” for 38-48”, and 3” for 50” and up. And for your inseam, increase 3” for 27-34” and 4” for 36” and up.

Should I just wash them in cold water, or soak them maybe? They haven't really faded too much, just the back pockets a bit.

I would put more "work" into them... but an ice cold soak shouldn't shrink them too much... but you will bleed out a lot of indigo.

To create unique fades. Fades are created when there's wear and tear, and friction against dye. Making sure your jeans have a good amount of wear and tear before washing it for the first time will set the stage on how the fades will look in the future. If you wash the jeans early on without enough wear and tear, you'll wash out all the dye. Your jeans will look terrible afterwards because all the dye has been washed off uniformly since there are no fades, and creating future fades is more difficult.

What are some current raw selvedge picks with enough room in the thigh area for those who squat too much?

Rogue Territory 12.5oz denim I ordered came in. Slightly big in the waist (vanity size of 32) but good in the thighs. Will probably taper in the legs a little.

Japanese Denim but the jeans MIUSA. Also love the detailing of it.
