This is from my experience only, but I improved strength dramatically while on ss - doubling quite a few of my starting weights besides bench.
I somewhat dreamer bulked and put on about 25lb of weight. I just cut and am looking like this now:
I'm still skinny as phuck, but atleast I have a base feelsbadman.jpg

agreed. Not that the program is bad just that most beginners jump into this after watching a few vids and thinking they have legit form. Theres a massive chance youll do yourself damage, you just dont have the coordination and propioception to do these movements without and assistance (supervision) from day 1. And theyll slap weight on until they break down too. Most of the time undertaking SS is ill advised.
Nothing wrong with the program how if the person doing it is 100% capable of performing the movements with normal levels of risk.
As good as lifting balls to the wall on a real program may feel, 16yo kids or 25yo neckbeards dont realise the kind of irreparable they can do,

Imo a better beginner program would be a 3day split
bench on chest/tris + accessory exercises
deadlift on back/bis + accessory exercises
squat/overhead press on legs/shoulders + accessory exercises***COUNTRYMIKE APPRECIATION CREW***

If your back is getting f**ked up then you need to sort out your form. Did you even read starting strength or are you just following the routine?
Lol at squats and deads on starting strength causing a hernia. More likely to get one from bicep curls when you're swinging them up because they are too heavy for you.
