Hey guys. I've been thinking about making a permanent training journal for a while now, and promised I'd do it after my last log.
About Me
I'm 24 years old
I'm 5'7" ish and 180 pounds
I've never competed in strongman or powerlifting
Training
Right now I'm on my 3rd cycle of 5/3/1 and plan on using it for all of 2012.
I use Bench, Squats, Deads, and Push press (changing to log press soon).
Current lifts are: 210 Bench, 310 Squat, 405 Deadlift.
Haven't maxed Bench or Squat lately so they're a little off hopefully.
Goals
I'm always adding new ones to the list but my major goal for 2012 was to compete in at least one strongman competition and at least one powerlifting meet.
I'm planning on doing a RAW meet on June 9th in Zion Crossroads, Va.
And I'm planning on competing in the WSM Amateur Series when they take off.
Dates haven't been announced but contest events have, so I know exactly what I need to be able to do.
I try to keep my training simple and fun. Some days I don't do much of anything, and other days I'm ready to train like crazy.
But I never miss a workout, and having that work ethic has taken me a long way in the last year.
I was benching around 175 at the start of 2011, never pressed overhead, squatted under 200 pounds in a smith machine, and had never done a deadlift in my life.
I spent 5 years doing nothing but drinking and playing video games. I finally found the gym in the spring of 2010 and it changed my life for the better. A few guys i know compete in strongman and powerlifting. After I did some reading last summer; it looked like something I wanted to do. Now, it's something I've set my mind to and I plan on doing well in both of them, or at least busting my ass until I can.
I'll post up some pics of my home gym sometime soon so everyone can see what I'm workin with.
Oh, and singlet pics for Thad.

Bench Day 3's week
Started off with 2 scoops of SNAC's PED.
Completely out of preworkout now.
Warmup
Shoulder Dislocations
Band Pull Aparts
Bench Press with Neutral Grip bar
Bench
135x6
150x3
175x3
185x3
195x5 Wasn't feeling too great about this. Hit 200x5 last cycle.
205x awful miss. Lost tightness when I lowered the bar, so I just gave up on my chest.
This really got into my head and pissed me off. I considered giving it another attempt but didn't want to get hurt being stupid.
Tried to let it go.
135x10
135x10
135x10
Switched to neutral grip bar
105x10
115x10
Assistance
55 Pullups. These took a bit but I got em.
2 sets of neutral grip push press.
Some rows with my monster mini band. These were great for hitting my rear delts.
Still rather upset over the bench press disaster. I don't know what went wrong. I've put up 215 or so before. And my projected max is usally around 225-230. Having a friend come over next week to try to help with my form, because my bench numbers are embarassing.

Squats 3's Week
Felt a little better yesterday about my overall workout.
Still wasn't getting extra reps though.
Warmup
Equiblock
Squats with Bar
Squats
95x5
135x5
185x5
225x5
245x3
265x3
285x3
Walked out 325 and 375. I've got no way to train for the yoke event so I want to at least get used to the feeling of having extra weight on my back.
5 sets of 135x10
Assistance
Good Mornings. 2 sets of 95x10
Hamstring Curls with Band
Conditioning
6 trips with the tire sled
This was killer. But I wanted to figure out a way to progress in these, so I upped it from 5.

6 > 5 so......PROGRESS!!!
Have you been upping the weight you use on your assistance?? I think (correct if wrong) you've been at 135 for squats on your BBB template for several cycles right???
Also don't forget about pyramiding your assistance as another option. You might even surprise yourself and hit a 10 rep PR in the processBetter Body Sports

No I haven't and thank you for calling me out on it, so I'll actually do what I'm supposed to next week.
I think I used 155 last week which is what I should've been on. It's right around 50 percent of my training max number.
I had 135 on cause were working on getting a friend to squat properly, and i just kept going right after him instead of adding weight.
I'll man up and do my sets with 170 next time.
