Is 46% of fat intake too low for a keto diet?

Dear friends I would like to know if 46% is too low for a keto diet? I ask this because some people here said that for a diet to be keto people have to take more than 60% of their total calorie intake in the keto diet. Thanks

There needs to be at least 55% fat. If you can get it at 60 or 65 percent, then that is optimal. Most of your calories need to come from fat because fat will be converted to ketones which will be your body's primary energy source.

46% is a good percentage to have once your body is fully adapted to ketosis and you've maintained it for several months. If you're just getting started on keto, your fat percentage should be at least 60.

More dietary fat being burned = Less body fat being burned

Ummmm..... no. If you are in a calorie deficit, you will be burning fat no matter what. A high fat diet helps get your body accustomed to burning fat for fuel.

It says the fat loss will be slower only due to the fact of the higher caloric intake. If you are in a calorie deficit, and have at leas 1g protein per lb of bodyweight, 5% or less of carbs, and 60% or more from fat, you WILL lose fat faster than a high protein, low fat, low carb diet.

I see more results doing what I said previously, regardless of what Lyle McDonald said. Science is great and all but real life results are a bit better IMO. But this dispute is irrelevant to the question. The answer is 46% of fat is too low for a ketogenic diet. Aim for 60-65 percent. End of story.

Nope. 46% still results in ketosis with a lack of carbs. So would 5%...

Not understanding your point. Lyle simply says the fat loss from RFL will be greater because of a larger caloric deficit. And as stated.....caloric deficit is what causes fat loss.

Yes, but isn't it true that the higher the fat content, the more deep into ketosis one goes which yields more fat loss?

No. I'd still recommend spending the first couple of months with a higher fat intake to get your body used to ketosis, but after that, something lower like 46% is fine.
