Whey comes almost from Milk. Milk is a commoditie. If the prices goes up, all derivates goes too.

But also the economy is crappy. Shipping prices, gasoline prices for transportation, dairy product expenses have rose, etc. There are many variables.

it's NOT just because the raw ingredients are going up...that is part of it but that is largely what has caused the last couple price increases over the last couple years. The most recent increase is almost solely based on demand increase and wanting to increase profitability while things are hot.

I was speaking with a VERY high up person with vitamin shoppe and they just emailed all their managers saying this is the most in demand sports supplements have even been....FAR beyond what they expected. the email basically said they are are shocked by the demand increase over the last 6 months and are blowing past all predictions they had for sales and it's time to capitalize on some revenue.


Prices going up 8%-14% just fyi.

lol I don't know....I know the worry at vitamin shoppe is they get people like me to come in who don't mind paying a couple bucks more for protein or other things if they want it NOW. I pay $24.99 for the protein I buy at VS...and $20.99 online for a 2 lb tub. So it's 4 bucks difference. At GNC it is $27.99 or they usually don't have it. So VS gets people like me who forget to order online or want somethign right now...they keep going up in price and people like me will get more diligent about ordering online and not forget and make sure we never have to go to a store.

I see all vitamin stores like i see blockbuster these days. Does it make more financial sense to do a mail order gaming rental program with no late fees or netflix? HELL YES. But sometimes it's just nice to go inside the video store and look around. When blockbuster brought back late fees...my wife and i solely went to netflix so they lost all our business. Kind of like the state Vitamin Shoppe and others are in...they better be careful or my need to go in and walk around for "fun" will go away.
