    5 Hours of Sleep Enough?

    I started a new job about 18 months ago, I work 4am til Noon. I typically get 5 hours sleep, 10-3. Then after work I get an hour nap before I workout.

    What I am wondering if I'm getting enough sleep for my body to rest and recover? I worry about wearing myself out and having negative effects.

    I do a 4 week cycle during the winter. I lift 6 days a week for 3 weeks. Then I do a 3 day week on the 4th. Then repeat the cycle..

    6 hours is the minimum amount you should sleep

    with 8 being optimal

    and 10 being "nice"

    BTW, for the record. I heard you should try to sleep in intervals based on your REM sleep cycle? Don't quote me on this but

    6 hours or 7.5 hours or 9 hours a day is optimal.

    Just because you are sleeping a certain amount, does not always mean you are resting.

    I believe you can get 4.5-5 hours of sleep without any physical/mental deficits during the day, especially if you stay active. When you engage in sedentary activities at night though it becomes very easy to fall asleep or lose focus. Maybe you can take a nap during the evening to counter that though. /broscience

    Whatever. I can sleep unlimited hours, but even if I wanted to, I couldn't sleep 10+.
    It's hard to control. I sometimes wake up after 6.5 hrs and can't fall back asleep. Sometimes I sleep 9 hours straight without waking up once.
    Best not to worry about it.
    (But yeah, I'd say 5 hrs is too little.)
