I tried Economics but couldn't cut it. Switched to accounting and couldn't cut that either. By that point I was 6 years into college, so I just graduated with a Business Management degree. You're gonna have to start out doing careers that are based in sales, unless you have a really good connection. 1 year out and I'm making 35k. Would have done English if I could go back, at least I like that.

I had a business management degree, with a specialty in health care management. Choose a specialty if you stick with the major. A general business degree is so fuking useless. Do you business degree with a specialty in personal management? that will get you in the HR field. You will probably start as a low level recruiter or something along those lines
edit: i work at a big name hospital making 34k + bonus/benefits (which is chit)
just interviewed for a promotion (application specialist for a specific electronic health system) which is 47k + bonus/benefits
all anyone cares about is experience so if you do decide to do mgmt then find interships every summer... 3 different HR internships will look way better then working at a health club part time
I rep back everyone 1k+... just sayin

this for real and I majored in it lols
I am opening my own business soon with the assistance of parents but if I didn't have that opportunity I would basically be fuked and would for sure be going back for a completely different degree the 2nd time around.
think about it, what the fuk do you really learn with this degree? Some basic accounting (Could learn as much as you need to be a manager somewhere easily from the other managers or a simple book), Finance - (same as accounting), management (lol what? you can either manage people or you can't, no class is going to make you a manager), what else is there really? Degree is a pos joke where you learn a little of everything but you end up coming out knowing nothing of value to anyone.

honestly brah not chit. If your college offers a strategic management degree, then that is more beneficial. Still pretty chit on its own, but if you minored in finance, econ, real estate, marketing... anything like that can land you a job in many diff fields. (all entry level tho since you have no defined skill set... think 30-40k tops)

I'm about to graduate with a bachelors in management - I'm already employed so it's useful in advancing me in my current field. If you have zero experience in any fields then it's not gonna open TOO MANY doors for you.

Depends on ur school brah. Finance degree from some chit school is pointless. If its from say... UCLA then it can open a bunch of opportunities for you. Undergrad from target school + legit internship = baller money... Graduate degree from target school + internship = ceo'in 10k/day...
Finance major myself, as im sure youve heard though, it is the snobbiest field in terms of school, GPA and experience (high GPA from a good school with a solid internship is essential, or ur best bet is working as a financial adviser for a bank)

You take that generic degree and apply for public services in the federal or provincial government.
brb only require a general degree
brb starting wage as an intern is 50k / year
brb 60k / year with practically any perm position
brb unlimited room for growth/promotion
I get the insider job postings from an anonymous source, most are 75k+ and management positions are 100k+. Work there for 20 years, assistant district managers make 250k / year.

Human Resources while going to Grad School. Go to grad and major in something else or go to law school if you have that GPA. Either that or become a Recruiter.

What would you say is the best way to go about finding key internships for finance? Do you just apply online or do you use connections, etc? Also what companies do you recommend? Thanks

not much, you can probably become a manager for a decent company if you are employed there already or have previous work in the same field.

Due to me being in the military i did not do an internship with my undergrad, but I will complete one my 2nd yr of graduate degree. Generally speaking though high paying/prestige internships are not applied for, and most major companies have recruiters that will contact you. Ways to get noticed by recruiters are simple, first and foremost, being top 10% of graduating class. Additional stand outs are becoming a part and having a leadership role within a business fraternity on campus, frequenting the business career service center(if your school has one, and good business school will) to network (at target schools recruiters hang out at these and you can introduce yourself directly) and by attending local seminars(generally held on campus) and introducing yourself/networking there. If you dont attend a target school, then snagging a prestigious internship is quite unlikely, but applying online/in person for companies such as bank of america, chase, local investing botiques are all possible. Also your career service center should have information on applying for internships in the area. If your not currently at a target school, and can afford ur graduate degree, best advice is not to worry about an undergrad internship, and focus on getting a solid GPA, and applying to a top graduate business school and worrying about your internship there, and the offers will come. Some top firms for ibanking & consulting to name a few are GS, McKinsey, Blackstone, Accenture, Lazard, Bain.
