Thank you to Controlled Labs and powercage for this opportunity to log CL's latest product, Gold Feast!
Practically identical packaging to its predecessor Golden Gains, but with different font sizes and of course a new flavor/picture.
Profile
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/clabs/gold-feast.html
Gold Feast's profile packs 20g protein, 23g carbs and 3g fat per serving. Compared to its predecessor Golden Gains, the macro content was balanced out with the protein increasing, and carbs / fats decreasing. (proportionally - carbs more so than fats)
I personally like this balanced profile better as I find carbs easier to source than protein - if you don't have your meats precooked, it takes a little more effort in a pinch to cook up a chicken breast than oats.
While the sources of protein changed a bit, the fruit and veggie complex along with the healthy fats has largely stayed intact. Gold Feast stands out from the rest of the protein powders in the market with a unique profile, and I would argue it is one of the best as it provides many benefits.
[
The smell isn't the most appeasing. Don't be fooled though, you won't care after you taste it.
I use a blender for most of my shakes. It mixes great with no problems.
Flavor/Texture
CL really delivered here with this one. Not quite a "Lemon Drop", but you taste the lemon... and the oats. Many users have described it as a Lemon Meringue Pie: I would personally claim that it tastes like a Lemon Meringue Pie, but without the cream. Without a doubt though, the hype is to be believed; it is pretty damn good. With Golden Gains, it was more of an acquired taste... I didn't like the first serving I had. Absolutely no such experience with Gold Feast, as I was looking forward to the sips to be followed.
The shake itself mixes thin. I tried my initial shake with 10oz water + ice cube (as CL recommends 20~32oz water) and then tried my second with 8oz milk + ice cubes. For the duration of the log, I will be mixing one scoop : 6~8oz water/milk + ice cubes.
If you see powercage recommending milk over water in most Gold Feast related threads... listen to the man, it does make a big difference.
What are you doing in your log?
I will be running under a slight caloric deficit (aiming for ~1700-1800 cals) under the IF protocol. Going to be training 4~5 days a week, with splits between legs, shoulders, bi/back, tri/chest. Gold Feast will most likely be taken as a pre-bed snack/meal.
Goal is to have high protein, low to moderate carb intake, moderate dietary fat intake.
In addition to your diet, what supplements are you taking during the log?
Controlled Labs Blue Gene - 1 month in, will be running the 2nd month during this log.
Generic Multivitamin
Controlled Labs OxiMega Fish Oil
Stim PWO
Controlled Labs Gold Feast (duh )
MyoFusion (if I fall short of my daily macros)
Again, thank you CL and powercage... hope to get this log up and running with training tomorrow!!!

No Allan, thank you. There's more to come!
Day 2 (1st gym session of log!)
Chest session today.
Barbell Flatbench - 135x10, 165x8, 185x4, 195x1, 135x10
Cable Butterflies - 60x12, 70x10, 70x10
Incline DB Bench - 50x8, 50x6, 50x8 (always get little leverage here after my bench )
Incline DB Flies - 25x10, 30x10, 30x10
Flat DB Bench - 30x15, 45x12
x15 pushups
Tried a different ratio today... 8oz water, 4oz skim milk, 4 ice cubes + 2 scoops Gold Feast. Got one heck of a creamy shake! I gotta admit I thoroughly enjoyed my shake today, but will continue to toy with liquid/powder ratio to see what is the best for me.Team VPX Sports

Deadlifts - 135x8, 155x6, 175x5, 185x3,135x8
Bent over 2DB Row - 25x15, 30x12, 32.5x12, 35x10

Not a bad day. Looking to increase volume + intensity with lower rest periods on future workouts...
Gave Gold Feast a go with Chobani Vanilla Greek Yogurt, 16oz water, ice cubes, and 2 scoops GF. The flavor was still good, but the shake was tartier due to the GY! Love GY but gotta admit it isn't the right combo with GF.Team VPX Sports

If you have the time to use the blender, I would definitely try it. I'm usually in a position to be eating after my workouts (i workout during lunch) so I take my Gold Feast pre-bed. It thickens the shake for sure, especially when using milk... I do end up with a bit of foam but it's not something that bothers me.
I'm really liking 12oz as my sweet spot but I'm going to try more liquid tomorrow

Today (wednesday) was a leg day!
Seated Leg Curls - 70x12, 90x10, 90x10, 90x8
SLDL - 50x12, 60x12, 70x12
Leg Extensions - 90x12, 105x12, 120x10, 135x8
Hack Squat - 110x10, 130x10, 150x10
BB Squat - 145x5, 145x5, 145x5
DB Lunge - 20x5, 20x5, 20x5
My workouts have been good and consistent. GF is a good treat to look forward to at night considering i'm on a cut
I had my GoldFeast yesterday with 16oz of water. The shake was a lot less thicker/creamier than I usually have it, but it was more freshing. Closer to a Gatorade-like refreshness, but with protein included. Definitely would hit the spot on a hot summer day... (unfortunately, it's mid winter )
I have to say, as a guy who has about 2 cups of broccoli a day, assorted veggies for dinner, and 1 serving of fruit a day, I greatly appreciate the fruit and veggie complex in Gold Feast. I loved the complex in Golden Gains, and love it the same now... as stated initially, the balanced out formula and the cost-per-serving has made it even more macro and budget friendly for myself as I personally feel it is easier to insert carbs into your diet than it is protein. Hard to imagine not having GF around as a staple after this one month log! It's hard to beat this product as an anytime MRP.
I was reading a log by somebody talking about Gold Feast Lemon Drop growing on them as a flavor... not so sure about that! Golden Gains grew on me, but Gold Feast tasted great from day 1.
I really hope CL decides to release more flavors, I can only imagine what else they might be able to release with their dev. team's ability and creativity.Team VPX Sports

shoulder workout today.
bb shoulder press - bar, 65x12, 75x10, 85x10, 95x10
seated side lats - 10x15, 10x15, 12x12
standing upright db row - 20x10, 20x10, 20x12
pulley delt raise - 10x10, 10x10, 10x15
Shrugs - 45x10, 55x10, 55x10
Went back to my usual 12oz + ice cubes... tossed in 2oz of apple sauce but it made absolutely no difference. I would've hoped tossing in 30cals worth of condiments would change the flavor, but no! Pretty amazing how strong the lemon flavor comes out! This both surprised and impressed me. I think I'm going to try throwing in yogurt over the weekend to play around with the texture a bit more!Team VPX Sports

Agreed! I usually fit in a meal + snack that I wouldn't usually eat on a cut. Yesterday's choice was Brazilian cuisine and the cheesecake, though unfortunately the Brazilian Restaurant wasn't exactly up to par!
No workout today (gym is in the city and I'm off due to MLK jr's bday) but tried almond milk (16oz) with gold feast. Not a big fan of almond milk by itself, but it tasted great! Adds sort of a nutty flavor.Team VPX Sports

thanks for stopping in Dracoy!
I'm not a huge fan of almond milk alone, but I like it in my coffee + protein shakes. Have never tried it in cereal, I should get around to it My brother + mother are simiarly lactose intolerant so I know (sort of) the pains...
Had to attend a long meeting out the office today so I couldn't make the gym, but I'm going to be playing some soccer with a buddy. 12oz almond milk + 2 scoops of GF did wonders for the texture as my morning MRP! I think 12~16oz is my personal sweetspot.Team VPX Sports

Wow. Ate like no other today.
Chinese New Years, so there was an annual pastry gathering at my office today. Skipped my intra bcaas and such since I gorged on so much food.
Had an impromptu katsudon for lunch, (breaded pork/chicken over rice) and some negidon (shredded tuna sashimi over rice) upon getting home.
Had my GFeast at night, though I'm absolutely positive I ate OVER maintenance. Oh well.
Did some tri work in, as friday will be the last day I'll be able to hit the gym this week. Plan on doing chest/tri, shoulder/legs, bi/back!
BB Flat Bench - 135x10, 145x10, 155x10, 165x4, 185x1
Cable Butterfly - 60x10, 70x10, 80x10, 80x10
DB Flat Fly - 30x10, 32.5x10, 35x10, 35x10
Standing DB Tri Ext - 35x10, 35x10, 35x10, 35x10
DB Incline Bench - 50x6
Dips - x10
Cable Tri Pushdown - 90x10, 90x15
Somehow my workout took a little over an hour. I really have to focus on intensity - more specifically, more volume and less rest! It's one thing that's always been weak in my workouts.
20oz of ice cold water with Gold Feast today. Gotta admit I don't like the thinner shakes, going to go back to my 12-16 tomorrow.Team VPX Sports

Close Grip Cable Row - 90x10, 115x10, 115x10

Didn't have a lot of time to workout! Conference call at 2pm and I left for hte gym a little before 1. :-x
Intensity was very good though, just wish i had 10 minutes more to pump out another set or two...
Had to do my GFeast shake w/o my usual blender since my parents were already asleep. 20oz water + ice cubes + two scoops, not bad but I'm missing out on my preferred thick texture! Hate having the oats/fruits&veggie complex sink to the bottomTeam VPX Sports

Tried 4 table spoons of fat free sour cream, 1oz skim milk, one scoop of gold feast in the freezer for 30 minutes...
Not the best idea adding more milk would dim the sour taste, but would probably make the texture icy...

My friday workout was bis and tris.
I'm down to the last couple of servings of my Gold Feast... It's been a good run my friend
DB Curls - 25x15, 30x12, 30x8, 35x6
DB Kickback - 12x12, 15x10, 15x10, 15x10
Conc. Curl - 25x10, 30x10, 30x10
Rope Pulldown - 90x15, 100x12, 100x12
Cable Curl - 12.5x10, 15x10, 15x10
Standing Tri Extension - 35x10, 35x10, 40x10
I'd been adding a carb meal (examples M-F: bag of strawberries, bowl of proats, bowl of cereall, bag of grapes, PB sandwich) prior to working out and carbing up in anticipation of adding an intra/nutrient partitioner to my diet --- i applied for the WB 2 log, where if I were not selected I was planning on purchasing either wb2/slinsane/vasotropin. I realize this feedback is irrelevant to GFeast as a MRP, but I thought I'd note it anyway as my diet was changing.
As a result, I've noticed:
a) more sustained energy not exclusive to the gym
b) improved / more consistent mood
c) feel fuller post workout, veins have been becoming a little more pronounced
Well, I'll post a full review of Gold Feast when I'm done with the tub...Team VPX Sports

Thanks dracoy! I'd been low carb for so long that I'm definitely responding better to a higher carb uptake.
I can't wait for the following 30 days worth of workouts with WB2, where I'll be continuing to keep my carb count up a bit :-)
GOLD FEAST Final Review
What do you like about it?

Gold Feast is definitely a solid MRP that supports one's diet whether they are cutting, maintaining or on a bulk.
My thoughts about its profile and flavor can be found in the original post. They pretty much have not changed; Gold Feast tastes great from your first serving, unlike Golden Gains where I had to grow to the taste.
Without ado, some thoughts I can provide after going through the whole tub;
For one, Gold Feast tastes great. With so many competitors in the market of protein powders, I prefer to purchase soething that is palatable as opposed to being distasteful. GF Lemon Drop passes this test with flying colors, as it's a refreshing taste everytime. 12oz water for a thicker shake (but tart) and 20oz for a more refreshing shake.
I also like that GF kept the fruit and veggie complex from before. I eat a serving of fruit and vegetables everyday for lunch, and another serving of vegetables during dinner, but it's always nice to include this for those who may be shortcoming.
Lastly, the profile is very good for a MRP. 20g protein, 23g carbs and 3g fats makes for a very balanced shake. With this, CL can accurately label this is a MRP rather than a straight up protein shake.
When do you take your Gold Feast?
Whenever really. While I took it either a) before bed or b) breakfast replacement, you can take this whenever really. Not much different than any other MRP or Protein shake in this category, really.
Will you buy it again?
Definitely. The versatile profile doubled with the excellent taste has me lining up again. You can find it for about ~1.25$ or a little less per serving if you shop around.
Although during this log I had the Lemon Drop Gold Feast everyday (except for some weekends when I was away from home) I would recommend that you keep at least one other protein product in your house, if you have it as a staple in your diet. Variety is the spice of life! However, Gold Feast should be a part of your variety.
Thank you again for the opportunity, CL. I will be posting up a review in the following days.
FINAL RATING: WILLBUYAGAIN/10
