I need 300 grams of protein a day?

My trainer told me I need 300 grams of protein a day. I figured around 180g a day was already enough. Height = 6'2 Weight 175 lb. I'm trying to build muscle for mass. Thoughts?
I just want more inputs. I'm a newB just started working out about a month ago.

I don't see why people think it's wrong to eat that much. I'll admit, though, it's not needed. However, if you're cutting, it would be helpful because it's really satiating, and protein has a higher thermic effect than other macros. However, unless you're on dat der, it's not needed.

Maybe if you're doing Keto or something. Otherwise, sounds a bit high. I try to get around 1.5g/lb body weight, but my carb intake is only around 1g/lb as well, so that's why. Check out the sticky to see if you're meeting your daily caloric/macronutrient requirements.

unless your doing RFL or an insane deficit you dont need that much. if your bulking you will likely have a high ish carb intake so you want need as much protein.
You are not a fragile ornament ready to collapse into an exhausted mass of goo simply because you squatted more than once in a 7-day week.

It'd be like preparing your entire life to bang 100 chicks in a row, getting tan, hitting the gym, making sure your hair looks right and reading the Kama Sutra, only to realize when you get there that you're gay and cannot get hard in the presence of women.

Keto calls for high fat not high protein(Assuming you are following Lyle's keto diet and not a RFL)

There are instances where that much protein can be recommended to people that are not on steroids:

You don't need to worry about your kidneys at a high intake. Read my post above yours.

Do you have an underlying disease that contraindicates high protein intake?
