Is it ok to eat junk food while bulking? READ DESCRIPTION

Is it ok to eat junk food when bulking?

Now as you can see, I'm very skinny. 6'0 male 145-150 pounds. Thats underweight skinny.

I'm trying my best to bulk up so is it ok for me to eat junk food while bulking? (junk food as in chips, chocolate, candy, hostess treats and sweets etc)especially since I'm underweight?

Cause its kinda hard to get all my cals in from just "clean" and "healthy" food ya know.

    So what yall think?

Many people resort to eating unhealthily when they want to put on mass with greater ease, especially if you don't have the appetite required to consume the amount of "clean" food needed to fulfill your caloric intake. It won't do wonders for your health, but I suppose it's OK. Just don't go crazy with it.

It's alright, as long as you hit your macros. Don't go overboard with it though.

basically once your 200g protein is covered do whatever...I had a double big mac, choc milk, and tons of donuts today, equaled to 220g protein, 470c, 140 fat or something. You will get all your nutrients daily eating like that, its 4-5k cals of food along with vitamins etc..there really is no difference.

This, so basically your saying can i eat a bunch of empty calories a day and get in better shape please ask yourself that and if you answer yes all hope is lost. Not only are you getting practially nothing form eating junk besides artificial sweetners, high fructose corn syrup, empty carbs (not the good kind of carbs either), and no nutritional benefit. Your not setting yourself up for further down the road when eventually you realize ok i bulked up eating junk food and now i have 20 pounds of extra fat so im going to cut, but all you know to eat is BigMacs and Skittles and Dorritos because oo wait you can bulk with that.

I just don't see the point dirty bulking your way up to a certain weight by eating junk if your just going to have to cut back down because you gained to much fat, there are plenty of healthy ways to get clean calories in that actually have some nutritional value.

Drink a gallon of milk a day a gallon of whole milk has 2400 calories; 128g fat; 192g carbs; 128g protein if your that strapped for food id much rather see someone drink a gallon of whole milk a day then Bigmacs, chips, candys.

Snack on almonds which are very high in calories and tons of good stuff.

Some other high calorie foods that are better options then junk

    Any nuts
    Peanut Butter
    Fruit Juices
    Greek Yogurt
    Pasta
    Cheeses and dressings

If your having trouble bulking with clean food or for that matter even food with any nutritional value, then this sport isn't for you.

Just itched my crotch while trying to swat a fly and four people told me I was a good dancer.

But seriously do you even know what high fructose corn syrup is? And for Alah's sake explain to me what "good carbs" are, Do you even understand how the human body works? All you need to do is eat your desired calories, and hit the macro's needed to grow, you body doesn't give a damn where those calories come from and doesn't know what's "clean" and whats not. A table spoon of honey is the same as high fructose corn syrup in the eyes of your metabolism. Eating veggies these day isn't going to cut in terms of health considering how degraded and stripped of their natural vitamins/minerals now, all they are good for is filling the gap of hunger.

"Dirty" bulking has nothing to do with food choice, only the amount of calories you consume.

So your telling me your body doesn't respond differently to different types of carbs, cause thats generally what i heard in that ramble of a post? Cause in that case have you ever heard of the Glycemic Index, or how different types of carbs effect insulin and blood glucose levels differently. Complex carbs in my eyes are good, carbs are the main source of energy during excerise and Complex carbs are usually high in fiber, vitamins, and other minerals. Diets high in fiber have been shown to lower the risk of rectal cancer.

One study shows the effects of long term fructose intake which make up approximately 42-55% of HFCS
"long-term absorption of fructose... causes enzyme adaptations that increase lipogenesis and VLDL secretion, leading to triglyceridemia, decreased glucose tolerance, and hyperinsulinemia."

In lamen terms it makes you fat.

Now there are times to jack up your insulin levels where ingestion of simple carbs can be viable, around the workout period is the only point i suggest intake of simple carbs cause there has been evidence of this helping pack on muscle.

Now simple processed carbs have a direct impact on obesity, insulin sensitivity, diabetes, stroke, metabolic syndrome, cariovascular disease, and forms of cancer. Its no argument that since HFCS have been incorporated into our diet all those causes have gone up today an average american diet 9% of there total calories are from HFCS.

Snack on almonds which are very high in calories and tons of good stuff.

Some other high calorie foods that are better options then junk

    Any nuts
    Peanut Butter
    Fruit Juices
    Greek Yogurt
    Pasta
    Cheeses and dressings

If your having trouble bulking with clean food or for that matter even food with any nutritional value, then this sport isn't for you.
lmao you think it isnt healthy to eat fast foods and junk foods for me but you thinking drinking a gallon of milk a day is healthy?

I'm sorry but I had to. Not to sound rude or anything but:

first off, why do you mean "empty calories"? No such a thing. one cal is the same as any other cal.

Yes I will be in better shape by eating junk food every now and then because I am underweight. Underweight is not healthy. I NEED to eat stuff like fast food for my weight to hit those extra calories. You think I can gain weight just from eating nuts and pasta and cheese? No such a thing. Not with my metabolsim.

I'm sorry buddy but for my weight, I think I'm gonna go with eating some junk food. Def would rather do that then drink a gallon of milk a day.

Thanks for tryin to help though

People always want to place blame on one thing. The 1980's was dietary fat. 90's strole around people poke fun at carbs. HFCS is actually no higher in fructose than many other sugars such as sucrose (table sugar), invert sugar or honey, its nothing more than a source of calories.

So an arguement you bring up is that:
HFCS or any sugar(ill just say HFCS and mean all sugar) must be uniquely obesity-promoting
HFCS must be predictive of US obesity
HFCS must be predictive of global obesity
Eliminating HFCS from the food supply must significantly reduce obesity.
    Si?

Given that HFCS and sucrose are practicably the same in composition, and how HFCS has taken over sucrose as the main sugar intake in the human diet over the past 30 years yet handled metabolically identically, and contain identical calories, replacing HFCS with sucrose will simply have no effect on anything.

Now this is where my argument is. I stated previously that "All you need to do is eat your desired calories, and hit the macros", which is true, but you are right too. Fructose malabsorption is a problem, mind you, but only when large amounts of fructose by-itself is consumed, this does not apply to HFCS or "dirty food".
The paper you gave me is highly prejudicial and not at all appropriate to quote because no one would eat a pure fructose diet, that would be just stupid.

Lately HFCS use has dropped but obesity continues to rise because people are just filling in their craving with more calories from a different source.

Increased intake of calories from 70's is the blame for obesity, not one sole food source. People just need to watch their calories and get off the electric carts at walmart.

I'm not saying you should go out and eat all the sugar and **** you want, just hit your macros.

Now about fiber, why would someone not be taking in fiber? Who enjoys constipation lol. The vitamins and minerals are an issue though, no matter how much you like veggies and fruit I doubt you can get in all your micro nutrients without a multi. So why would I subject myself to chicken breast and brown rice when I can have steak, whole eggs, and cocopuffs?

So your telling me your body doesn't respond differently to different types of carbs
The end result of bodycomposition is the same whether you got 100g of carbs from koolade or WW bread.

the odd cookie, or other sugary item can easily fit into a bulking or cutting diet, as long as it's done intelligently. just try to make every meal balanced. Yes, i think eating meals by a macro ratio is a good idea. I know its not necessary, but it makes hitting my macros easy. for example . Lets say im having 2 eggs, a cup of skim milk, and 2 slices of wheat toast for breakfast. Not counting the protein in the bread, the macros for the meal are...
    52c20p10f

if i want a cookie instead of a piece of toast, and the cookies macros are 20c0p7f (not counting wheat proteins). i just remove 1 yolk , and replace 1 slice of toast with the cookie. the final macros would be 52c20p12f. the only real downside is that the cookie has less micro nutrients than the yolk , but theres a price to pay for eating "junk"

Your ignorance amazes me, theres literally too many things to say in response to this that i just don't even feel like offering my help to you. Go eat your fast food and candy please do cause rumor down at Wendys and Burger king is thats how Arnold did it growing up but keep that on the hush hush top secret.

In response to you Shredded-Wolf i completely agree and i think i could have protrayed my throughts better then i have.

And one last thing if one cal is the same as any other cal try this experiement change your diet to 4k cals from soda as your daily diet and see what happens i mean one cal is the same as another cal wheater its protein, carbs, or lipids. *slaps head*

And thats where supplements come in, unless you are referring to the cholesterol lost from the egg yolk. And WW bread really isn't that great of a nutritional source, the cookie may just be better...

And one last thing, in case you wanna reconsider my milk idea.

Benefits of GOMAD. GOMAD stands for Gallon Of Milk A Day. GOMAD is a weight gain method that has been going around since years. Some benefits of drinking 1 US gallon (4 liters) of whole milk daily:

Weight Gain. 25lbs weight gain during the 1st month is common on GOMAD. Read the GOMAD success stories, especially Bluestreak's.

Strength Gain. The protein & fat content in whole milk helps muscle & strength gains. The weight gain also helps strength gains.

Easy. Liquid food is easier to get in than solid food and digests faster. Milk also needs zero preparation and is easy to take with you.

Cheap. 1 gallon whole milk contains 2400kcal, 200g carbs, 120g fat, 120g protein and lots of vitamins & minerals for a relative low price.

Natural. Some say that GOMAD works even better than steroids with beginners who want to gain weight fast.

Permanent Gains. GOMAD teaches you to get more calories in, the key to weight gain. You'll never be skinny again.

I second this. Especially bold. Went from upper 160's to 225 in about half a year. Felt stretched man.

if I have a whole day of nothing but junk food I don't feel good even though I get my proteins and macros
I feel more bloated, more lethargic and even my skin starts looking worse

When I eat enough veggies, fresh meat and fish, nuts pretty close to my TDEE and have 600-700 calories of whatever food I want including
ice-cream and cookies, I feel great. YMMV I know a person who eats nothing but lasagna and ice-cream and he is ripped as extremely healthy.
I also know a person who lost weight on candy bars and cookies alone and his blood results were perfect after three months of such a diet.

GOMAD is retarded, 25lbs of weight gain the first month are of course 3lbs of muscles and 22lbs of fat, what's the point of this?
The body has no requirements for extra calories above TDEE, it's all turned into fat and it won't make one's muscles grow bigger since we can't increase protein synthesis by eating more we can only support protein synthesis by eating what our body needs, no more no less. Calculating one's caloric need and increasing 200 calories every weeks till one finds the sweet spot where growth occurrs without 30 lbs of useless fat is way more sensible than drinking 3000 calories of milk.

And one last thing if one cal is the same as any other cal try this experiement change your diet to 4k cals from soda as your daily diet and see what happens i mean one cal is the same as another cal wheater its protein, carbs, or lipids. *slaps head*
meaningless argument, one calorie is the same as any other calorie but one still needs to get enough proteins and nutrients
a cheeseburger is not devoid of nutrients, actually is pretty nutritious and there's the same vitamins and minerals you can find in a slice of fresh bread, chicken breast, a tomato and a glass of milk. Soda is devoid of nutrients, it's a liquid food (and humans don't responds well to liquids foods: too fast digestion, poor appetite control...) and doesn't provide any protein. A better comparison would be 4k cals from brown rice, top sirloin, salad and nuts or lasagna, pizza and barbequed sausages

Bro read my post. Arnold wasnt underweight like I was. So I'm pretty sure he didnt have a hard time getting cals and gaining muscle.

So for someone like me to eat fast food to gain weight it 100 percent healthy and fine.

and I meant cals from fats are the same

Did you read my post i gave you a way which helped some people gain 25pound in there first month by drinking a gallon of milk a day, i seriously can't tell if your a troll, someone who holds stock in McDonalds, or just plain ignorant.

-Fast food is very high in carbs, fat and very low in fiber.
-Fast food is very high in lots and lots of artrificial flavors, colors, and preservatives none of which are anywhere near good for your health
-High fructose corn syrup, an addictive that is put in soda, has been associated with increased risks of Type II diabetes and heart diseases.
-Fast foods have been linked to cholesterol levels rising and raising of blood pressure (due to the high sodium content). Therefore, the risk of strokes is much higher.
-Ever seen Super Size Me? One guy ate McDonalds every day for one month. He gained 20 pounds and experienced sever liver problems. The liver doctor begged him to pull out after 20 days

In the end you have to ask yourself if the health risks of daily fast food intake outway the long term benefits, you may gain some weight initially but you have no idea what your putting into your body and how it affects you.

I offered some very high calorie foods that are insanley easy to make and eat, but if thats too tough for you then you should seriously just give up right now. Milk is 3.99 or so a gallon for 2400 cals and it takes no preperation you don't have to drive anywhere to get it you just drink, and since its liquid it digests faster then solid food. Pasta you heat up some water then boil pasta for 10 minutes literally no work needs to be done besides a stir every few minutes, almonds which are high in calories you literally just pop a few in your mouth. By god i just don't see why you have to eat fast food to get calories are you that lazy???

o god here we go. Ok forget the thing I said about cals being the same. I thought they were, but I'm wrong.

1.) Yes I read your post. I heard of gomad months before I even made this thread. But its hard for a 16 year old to get a gallon of milk everyday. Not just that but do you know what it feels like to drink a gallon of milk everyday? I dont but I could imagine it will give you big stomach aches and bloating feelings 24/7. I may try it soon but still doesnt seem healthy. Just cause its milk doesnt mean its healthy. Too much of anything isnt healthy.

2.) "-Fast food is very high in carbs, fat and very low in fiber."
    Thats perfect for me.

"Fast foods have been linked to cholesterol levels"
Lol so does milk if you drink a gallon of it everyday!

3.) "the health risks of daily fast food intake"
I never ever said I would eat fast food everyday. A couple times a week just to get those extra cals.

4.) "I offered some very high calorie foods that are insanley easy to make and eat"

I already know a bunch of foods that have high calories. But I'm a 16 year old. I cant just go and drive and get any foods I want and cook them. Whatever we have available in the house is pretty much what I have to eat. I eat what I can. Even with those foods, thats not enough. These foods can make a average weight or mesomorph gain weight. But not an ectomorph like me whose underweight. Thats what you dont understand. You think its just so easy to gain weight you have no idea what its like. I already know all this, so thats why I didnt ask "how to gain weight". I asked "if junk food is ok to eat while bulking"

5.) "you don't have to drive anywhere to get milk"

Lmao yes you do! The ****in grocery store! what you think its homemade?!

Any more questions/concerns you feel you need to point out?
