Started 8x8 today, 30 sec rest goes fast :)

I started doing a 8x8 style workout as a 2-4 week sorta deload phase while I square away my nutrition. I swear the sec hand on the clock was malfunctioning Huge difference between 60-120 sec rest and 30 sec rest. Nice pump though. Anybody use this kind of training for any success?

    Not familiar wiht this program.

What's the purpose for limiting rest???

I try to lift as much as I can and put maximum effort into every set, so I rest until I'm ready to go. I don't time anything.

I do GVT 10x10, outstanding results for me.

I rip through sets 1-3 with 30 sec. rest in between sets.
In between sets 3 and 4 I take 1-2 min..
Burn through 4-7 again with 30 sec. rest.
    1-2 min. in between 7 and 8.
By sets 9 and 10 the same 30 sec. break.

The most amount of work in the least amount of time when you're training with volume.

I have used FST7 which incorporates some of this. It takes it toll on you.

I'm trying to use this style to force my training weights lower but I'm still working hard. I don't like traditional deloads so I thought I'd try this instead. FST7 was an option too.

GVT is awesome! It is a killer though....not familiar with 8x8 would suspect it is very similar. Will google.

    edit: Google Vince Gironda's 8x8...

The 8x8 is Gironda. I really liked the routine when I was on it. And is SO fast! I still do mostly Gironda-suggested exercises. They just work for me.

It slimmed me down a bit on 8x8 but that was me. If you're diggin' it... well, it is very diggable!

I did 8x8 except for calf work. That was 8X20. Great change up IMO.

    You rock for trying this!

Yep, it's Gironda's 8x8. If you do a search on here for "8x8", a bunch of posts pop up and some give a good description of the method. I originally read about it in an article on T-nation.

It's similar to GVT, which is 10x10 with 1 min rest. It's pretty much metabolic conditioning. The limited rests gives you limited time to restore ATP sources. There for, the constant depletion will cause SAID principle, and will increase the ability to store energy (increase in sarcoplasmic fluid).

The 100 rep breathing squats you did are pretty much the same thing. The only difference is that your rests where under tension, his was not. The principle is the same though.

    Note.
ArchAngel73s journal should be the first stop you make. His program is f*cking intense.

Found an example, no big lifts....interesting, it would be cool if you give your feedback later on, even if your just testing for deloading.
I just finished the book "New Rules of Lifting" by Schuler. I will be trying it next week depending if my shoulder will let me. Basically its 4 workouts, start, fat loss, strength, and hypertrophy. the last 3 have 3 different levels. The reason I brought it up was that in his fat loss program he uses high reps and a faster tempo.
    Good post
    regards

I'm planning on using 8x8 for all of my training through January. My main goal is to keep up the volume w/ lower weights, still working hard and give the joints and CNS a nice break. So far after 2 workouts, 1 pushing and 1 pulling, I can says that it is a tough workout. Finding the right weight to use has been interesting. For example: on Seated DB Overhead Press I usually do 90x8-10 on my 1st work set; yesterday I started with 60s for 8x8 and by set 6 I couldn't get 8 Its different but tough. I'll post my thoughts on here for anyone who cares as I get into it.
