Why would you go to Alaska and drill when you could go to Central QLD (or Roma) or Western Australia and earn 50% more to drill?
Are you a tradie? If not then what is your working background?
How much are you paid in Alaska?
What is your roster/schedule?
How often do you get back to Australia?
Do you have accomodation in dongas or do you have to rent your own house/apt/hotel?
How much of your income do you save?
Are you married or have a gf?
If not when was the last time you managed to meet a bish?
What is the temperature?
What does your job involve?
Ever seen a girzzly bear?
Ever gone for a skinny dip in ice (no homo)?
Are you an alcoholic like most Alaskans?
Would you bang Sarah Palin?

2 months on 2 off?
Obviously you aren't doing project management or any long term soft of engineering then, are you merely supervising/coordinating ongoing drilling? What activities would your job entail in a typical month?
Do you earn more or less than someone back home drilling for oil in Roma QLD or minerals in WA?

Weeks not months.
no im essentially supervising the logging of the formations, ensuring we are where we are supposed to be, and i co-ordinate with the directional driller, over the course of the hitch ill do things like, right reports and make morning logs, program our tools, dump the memory, set up our equipment and sensors on the rig and ensure our data is correct
the money is a little more, however the cost of living is the US is a lot cheaper, i was shocked when i got here.

- tax breaks due to being 'out of country' i.e offshore
- ignorance
- ignorance
- worry about your own country
- paid more, isn't that bad
- earn more to compensate, minimum wage here is roughly ~£14/$22.4 and i earn over double that.

Can't be too scary if you've got your harness on and are rigged up correctly.
Directional drilling sounds interesting. What sort of engineering did you study, petro engineering isn't big in Australia so I'd say mechanical or geotechnical? Sounds like you've got a pretty good job if you can withstand the isolation and time away from family/friends/girlfriend and the fact that you can save 40% is great.
I thought the cost of living in Alaska was amongst the highest around the world but I suppose you don't have great expenses there.

You're an LWD hand.
What tools are you using? EM or Mud Pulse? Triple combo?
What kind of wells are you drilling there? Size? Design?
Is your DD a god too? We're all gods.
Is your company man French? French company men are all *******s.
Drilling & Measurements reps on recharge.
BTW; I'm a former wireline then MWD then Directional Driller. Now I'm DSV, but miss being a DD.
