A handful is ample, they spike the insulin, hence the muscle will induct all nutrients more efficiently, thus promoting greater growth as well as recovery for your following workout.

Is it only gummy bears that do that or do gummy worms do the same?

the aim is for insulin spike due to the sugar. people say eat some fruit or carbs. yes it will spike insulin but not as effective as sugar / dextrose will. reason as Layne Norton explains is your body has to break it down first. fruit as well. sugar / dextrose will help your pancreas release insulin instantly. sigh read my post again. I say yes it does but not as effective due to the body needing to break it down first. unlike sugar or dextrose which is a carb which is instant.

Some of this depends on when your next meal is... If you're going home for some pasta and steak then it's not that much of an issue. If you're going to be out for hours without eating then a shake isn't a bad idea -- at least you'll feel better as well.

ok good to know and i miss gummy candies (gummy worms and gummy bears) they are my favourite and from now on i will reward myself after each workout with a handful of gummies to spike my insulin. i just hope i can keep it to just a handful since when i start i usually finish the tub.

oh and vodka gummies are awesome.

do yourself a favour and research it or ask a professional bodybuilder. someone who has at least qualified for state or a trainer who has trained pro's for 25 years plus. I take their advice over someone smaller then me and weaker then me off the internet.

no point in arguing over the internet

from what I have seen on here people say Layne norton knows nothing and they claim to know more then him. then reference someone else and they say they know nothing. then you have some 16 year old kid with youtube and a gym membership who claims to know it all. joys if the internet everyone is a pro.

i can sit here all day and link links. doesn't matter to me if you want to listen or not. its your body but if I am so wrong why do I look better then half the people here NATURALLY!

They say Diet is most important. well I must be doing something right with diet and training

do yourself a favour and research it or ask a professional bodybuilder. someone who has at least qualified for state or a trainer who has trained pro's for 25 years plus. I take their advice over someone smaller then me and weaker then me off the internet.

no point in arguing over the internet
lol ya since IFBB pros know so much about nutrition. and i was actually asking because i would like to see it. but obviously you cannot back up your claims

are you saying IFBB pro's and NABB pro's know nothing and you know more?

takes more then a jab in the leg with a needle to look the way they do. do you think drugs are the simple solution to instant muscle mass and nutrition has no play??

I also linked the link. next time do some basic research. you got an internet connection do what most others do on here and

for the 2nd time. read again.

Look if I want to look skinny like you I will ask you for advice. Or I will try cutting.

not going to argue anymore its the internet and your clearly a pro and should teach everyone on here how they should do things your way to look like you. you should teach NABB pro's and state competitors to qualify for IFBB. but first you actually need some kind of qualification to be legally able to offer anyone advice or get your ass sued and end up in prison.

again dont blame me blame bio chemistry and biology and the law.

you do what you want to do and offer the advice you want to offer. your call. move on

    Specifically:

Even more so than with protein, carbohydrate dosage and timing relative to resistance training is a gray area lacking cohesive data to form concrete recommendations. It is tempting to recommend pre- and post-exercise carbohydrate doses that at least match or exceed the amounts of protein consumed in these meals. However, carbohydrate availability during and after exercise is of greater concern for endurance as opposed to strength or hypertrophy goals. Furthermore, the importance of co-ingesting post-exercise protein and carbohydrate has recently been challenged by studies examining the early recovery period, particularly when sufficient protein is provided. Koopman et al [52] found that after full-body resistance training, adding carbohydrate (0.15, or 0.6 g/kg/hr) to amply dosed casein hydrolysate (0.3 g/kg/hr) did not increase whole body protein balance during a 6-hour post-exercise recovery period compared to the protein-only treatment. Subsequently, Staples et al [53] reported that after lower-body resistance exercise (leg extensions), the increase in post-exercise muscle protein balance from ingesting 25 g whey isolate was not improved by an additional 50 g maltodextrin during a 3-hour recovery period. For the goal of maximizing rates of muscle gain, these findings support the broader objective of meeting total daily carbohydrate need instead of specifically timing its constituent doses. Collectively, these data indicate an increased potential for dietary flexibility while maintaining the pursuit of optimal timing.

    Back again I see.

Do you even read what you claim supports your statements?

This is from Layne Norton's article that you linked:

"It is also a wise idea to consume a post workout meal composed of whole food, low GI carbohydrate sources (although one may consume another protein shake if they feel so inclined) about 30 minutes after finishing the in workout shake."

"This low GI carbohydrate should contain about 25% of your total daily carbohydrates and will help stabilize blood sugar levels. You see, dextrose causes a very large insulin spike, and actually can cause insulin to be over secreted, when insulin is over secreted, blood sugar levels will drop rapidly as insulin disposes of the glucose into the tissues and one may even begin to experience hypoglycemia"

Even in the comments following the article:

"from what I’ve read from Dr. Norton’s other articles and interviews he no longer backs the 20% PWO shake with Dextrose."

It doesn't look like Layne Norton is supporting dextrose PWO as you suggest.

You could stand to be a little more open minded rather than assuming what you think you know is set in stone. I doubt that will happen though.

talk to me when you both look in better shape then me.

say it again I can sit here and link links all day. you will be able to find some other pro that will counter what I say and I will do the same. when will it end.

if he does not condone it why does he recommend it. why do so many others recommend it. probably the same reason that so many others dont recommend it.

how about you both put your sups, diet plan and training program here so we can all have a look at how we can look like you two. I dont see you guys putting your own info on here cos if you did you will be told your doing it wrong. some will say your doing it right. end of the day its your own body and choice

I've actually been much more successful than you have. I figured out nutrition well enough to lose a whole lot of weight while gaining muscle. I did this by staying opening minded and learning. I've acheived many of my goals and continue to set new ones. I know Ill achieve them because I'm capable of learning and executing.

You on the other hand can't figure out how to gain weight because you aren't smart enough to realize you need more calories to gain weight. Instead you rather believe it comes from finding some magical combination of food because somewhere a long the line you heard someone that looks good says so. What you fail to realize is big doesn't equal smart or knowledgable. Worse still is you talk about using gear before you even have nutrition worked out.

You also don't seem to realize sometimes information and best practices change over time. What really baffles me is how you site someone like Layne Norton to support what you think you know then when its obvious that he doesn't support your point of view you just blow off and try to change the subject to something irrelavent. What you should do is consider that you might have been wrong.

I really feel sorry for you. Good luck.
