My wife is pregnant with our first child - a boy. My wife is adamant about wanting him to be circumcised after he's born, but I've pushed back because I don't know if it's the right thing to do. The main reason she supports circumcision is for hygiene, both for her as a mom cleaning him while he's young and for him when he's older knowing how to clean himself appropriately. She said she doesn't want to worry about infection and having to put lots of effort into cleaning him. I explained that out of all the work we'll be putting into raising our son, cleaning his foreskin will probably amount to about 0.001% of the total effort, but that point seemed to go over her head. It doesn't help that I'm circumcised and she feels like I won't be able to teach him how to clean himself.

The reason I'm having doubts is because I want my son to be able to have the greatest sexual fulfillment possible when he's older and because I don't want to risk injury during the procedure (even though the risk is low). My questions to you guys are this:

How difficult is it to keep an uncircumcised penis clean? Especially interested in responses from parents of uncircumcised kids.

It depends 100% on genetics. He may have more foreskin than other people or less (close to circumcised). If he has a normal amount he can just pull it back and the water keeps it clean. srs I just clean the outside with soap and the rest gets cleaned off with water

I actually raised this very question. She said that if it served a legitimate hygiene purpose, that she would want her parents to have circumcised her. I literarlly bertstared and had no response, though I think she probably just said that to win the argument.

It's very easy to clean, I can't really remember what I did when I was REALLY young but for as long as I can remember I've been washing it myself without any issues.

There are a couple things really. Sex does feel better with all the extra nerve endings, although you do have to clean opposed to not at all. Especially after sex. Being circumcised however there won't be any cleaning issues, sex still feels good and he won't have to feel self conscious about it if that's the case.
