it would be a safer community/city?
no more targeting defenseless people.

i have no evidence to back this up, but I have a feeling that most criminals that prey on the innocent are all cowards. Given a gun/knife they can commit crimes because they know the average citizen will not fight back.
If someone came up to me with a gun to rob me and I pulled out a gun, id be willing to bet that they wouldn't have the balls to pull the trigger.Negs to anyone that:

There are shootings in cities where carry license is hard to get, there are shootings in schools. There are no shootings at gun shows.
Assuming the person has been verified to be sane, of legal age, and without a record, gun ownership statistically always makes for a safer society, since criminals will get guns anyway. Easily and always.
Better question is: if your monolithic secretive government has guns, shouldn't you? First steps hitler took is to disarm the population... just sayin... We already have Martial Law, citizens of USA can be detained, held indefinitely without trial or charges, and killed. Fact.

Everyone has wanted to kill someone at one point, everyone has that "snap" moment. I think there would be a lot more deaths with so many guns around. And there are. The statistics speak for themselves.
It would be too difficult to only let responsible people have guns so all in all it would be better off if no-one had guns (in this society) but in an ideal world, then I guess countryfolk with a shotgun and a pistol or two isn't going to hurt anyone. Would say no guns in built up areas though and certainly non to teenagers, people in their early twenties, gangbangers etc."Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds" (Romanus 12:2)

The US has nearly twice as many guns per 100 residents as Switzerland.
