    vegetables

so i've read somewhere on this website that some vegetables are keto friendly and some aren't

for example onions and tomatoes, a lot of websites recommend them and a lot of websites don't on a keto diet even though they are low in net carbs

on dr perlmutter website its listed on the gulten free list but some other websites consider onions to be root vegetables, sometimes i feel like what the ****, which vegetables are safe or keto friendly and which vegetables arent and how can we determine that ? is there a basic rule ?

Its more simple when you understand WHY a veggie may be keto friendly or not. Onions and tomatoes are less keto friendly simply because they contain more sugar than broccoli, cauliflower or spinach. That certainly does not mean you cant eat them. I eat onions quite often. It just means dont go crazy and its a good idea to actually count the carbs in these veggies to make sure you arent going over on your macros.

I agree - all vegetables are fine but some need to be in a lot more moderation than others due to high carbs.

My understanding so far would be things like:

Low carb: kale, spinach, mushrooms, radishes, lettuce, cucumber, broccoli, celery, seaweed, cabbage

Higher carb so eat sparingly: aubergine, beansprouts, beans, peas

High carb that I would normally avoid if I can: sweetcorn, carrots, potatoes, beetroot

I use MyFitnessPal to check out carbs ratio when in doubt as well.

    Hope that helps

Any vegetable is fine. I typically don't read too much into specifics when dealing with ultra healthy food.
