    When does fat loss happen?

When losing fat it seems as if it slowly happens overnight. Is this the case, and how does it work? Thanks

During sleep your body's primary fuel is ketones. Stating this as simply as possible, fat from body is taken and transformed into useable fuel in the liver called ketones.

It is a very complex process. If you are interested, look up the FFA cycle.

So it would be safe to say that the average of 5 hours of sleep I get per night is hampering my fat loss?

possibly, there are a lot of factors. Obviously, being awake and active burns more calories then sleeping. Being sleep deprived can slow down your metabolism (webmd) and mess with leptin levels as well as put one in a stressed out state, cortisol.

Personally, I've had a period of weight loss and a period of weight gain from lack of sleep. The time I lost weight rapidly I was thinking until my brain hurt, studing / work related. The other time I gained weight, I was just staying up later, vegging.
