    Good substitute for tuna?

I had planned on eating tuna as my lunch meal but after reading up on mercury levels, I don't think it's a good idea to eat that much tuna. So can you guys suggest something else for lunch? Maybe something akin to tuna without the toxic effects?

Any type of white fish would make a good substitute (ex tilapia) because they are low in fat and taste good. Other than that you can go for a classic seared chicken breast atop some salad

I went with the slightly more expensive canned chunk chicken breast. Maybe not as much protein, but doesn't have the mercury.

even though i think the mercury poisoning thing is exaggerrated for the majority of our members' tuna intake (others would argue but arguing over it is moot), i have switched to pre cut frozen chicken breasts from wally world, comes out cheaper and just as much protein, pretty much the same amount as fish i'm pretty sure. except for maybe salmon, but the difference is literally only within a few grams of protein per 4 oz, if that.

How bad is the mercury in tuna?

It never bothered me,I just never cared about things like that.

I eat about 5 tins per week, considering my diet before I had bigger things to worry about,it was the lesser of two evils.

Then again I am a bit silly I never cared about negative effects of sweeteners or saturated fat, even trans fat really,Ive never been a health freak

I eat 2-3 bags of tuna per day and on the weekends i have about 1 five serving can of tuna with some low sodium ritz crackers.

So far I'm not dying to my knowledge (I've been doing this for over 2 months)

I eat at least two of them big pouches of tuna a day while cutting. The convenience, cost and protien is too good for me to pass up.
Ive been doing this for over a year and havent had any problems.

    Mercury on tuna, substitutes?

Sorry to bump into this old thread, however mecury levels in tune deserves some concern if we wish to stay healthy. FDA recommends not eating tuna every day, check here nrdc. org/health/effects/mercury/tuna . asp . We all know the poison mecury is depending on the dose: blindness, loss of coordination, memory. It would be very interesting if other more experienced bodybuilders could add their experiences or suggestions to avoid eating tuna every day. Bodybuilder community should take care.

    That's good stuff right there!

I buy that and the canned wild cought salmon from costco , the canned salmon brand is bear & wolf.

I alternate the chicken and salmon for lunch at work, i use fat free mayo to mix it in. I throw it on my HUGE salads with all types of healthy veggies cut up and thrown in too.
