I know what you eat is very important, but is it really that important to do all this maths ? the right amount of calories, the correct amount of fat, protein and carbs.
Is it fine just to eat big and make sure it's all good food, high in protein and healthy fats.
Surely the old school bodybuilders wouldn't of been worrying about nutrition so much because there wasn't the science or the research.
Any links to respected body builders that see nutrition more simply

No and yes. If you can gain weight and lose fat following your instincts, good! Is highly recommended if you tend to do something dumb like eating to much, eating to little, eating to little protein, etc...
These 'guidelines' will not guarantee you the expected results.
I think the same way. As said, all the math become important when you aren't getting results.Do I even lift?!

Dude, if you are having trouble calculating the amount of calories you should be hitting after reading the stickies, just start a thread where you say that you read the stickies and you tried to calculate the # calories and # grams of protein, etc. per day but want someone to check it over.
Since you already started this thread, just post the numbers you THINK you should be hitting and your activity level and others will double check it for you.
In general, you have to at least do the most basic effort to begin with.

Most of us are not computing complex formulae every day. Personally I just tot up calories and grams of protein.
BUT that is not to say there is no value to reading the sticky threads - you should have the knowledge to understand what can be simplified and what can't. For example, my diet never has me falling under the fat sufficiency minimum for the day so I don't count grams of fat. You can't just take this for granted.
