How To Get Your Questions Answered Redux

This particular thread topic came up in another thread. I was able to find the OP, but for some reason, the option to bump it back up was not available. So I did the next-best thing; copy/pasta:

In my 7 years here I’ve seen hundreds of questions asked and I’ve seen many of them go off the rails. What should have been straightforward threads end up as bunfights and often the OP goes away frustrated, never to return.

Based on my observations, here are some tips to help you get the information you want:

    1. Use the search function.
Chances are someone’s already asked a similar question. There are about a dozen "standard"questions that are asked weekly and forum members get tired of answering them over and over again. Help yourself before you ask others to help you.

    2. Take a moment to figure out what it is that you want to ask.
Blurting out a series of barely-connected sentences and hoping folks here can figure out what it is that you’re really trying to say tends not to end well. Get your question distilled down to a simple, clearly-written line and your chances of getting it answered will skyrocket.

    3. Include relevant context or background information.
No one here knows your medical history, your food allergies, the quality of your home life or what your exercise experience level is. If any of those things are relevant to getting your question answered, then include it. There are few things more irritating than offering a detailed answer to how to improve your squats only to have the OP reply with “but I only have one leg”.

    4. Keep your mind open.
Probably the most irritating thing that happens when it comes to answering forum questions is when the OP begins to argue that they’re already doing everything perfectly.

If you were doing everything perfectly, you would’t be asking questions, would you? No one likes hearing that they’ve been wasting their time with a certain way of doing things, but that doesn’t make the feedback any less valid. Don’t dismiss advice just because it doesn’t fit your preconceptions.

    5. If you’re asking for feedback on your exercise routine or diet then include a detailed description of them.
    This isn’t mindreaders.com

    6. Ask your question in the appropriate forum.
The advanced forum isn’t the place to ask what a barbell is. The main forum isn’t the place to ask for opinions on the current political situation. The o35 misc isn’t the place to ask about prohormones. Putting your question in the appropriate forum increases your chances of getting the responses you’re after.

    No brain, no gain.

Thank-you for hunting this down Will!

Maybe this can cut out some of the clutter and be beneficial to those who read it.
I have no problem bumping this thread on a frequent basis.

If you see Chris (kimsquit) posting anywhere, rep him. His (what I quoted above) was probably the best 'beginner' thread ever posted on this site. Concise and to-the-point.

Lift as MUCH as you can, for as MANY reps as you can,
while in complete control of the exercise.

Hi, I recently found this site and I am very excited about learning from everyone here. My question: I am 38 and recently started working out again after 3 years of not fitting it into schedule. I've been looking for a testosterone booster to help me gain some muscle and raise my libido. I have search musclebuilding.com site but there are so many products that it is very difficult to decide on which one to try without having some bad side effects to the supplement. Is there one you could recommend and why?
