There's extra dense rollers with bumps and grooves that stick out to deliver massage qualities that are out of this world.

I think your confusing something that feels good with something that is pleasurable. Just because something feels good it doesn't make its pleasurable or orgasmic for that manner. Foam rolling feels good but will never get me hard. Sex is pleasurable and requires me to be hard.

OP, you'll probably want to get Perform Better's Elite Molded Foam Roller. This foam roller should last you a few years and it's extremely affordable. It's good enough for commercial gym use. If it's too firm for you then you'll have to decrease the amount of pressure you're putting on the tissue. You can (and probably should) always start off with the white (Soft Molded), which is what a physical therapist would recommend and then move onto the Elite Mold later on once you've developed some tolerance.

The best ones, according to Mike Reinold (Mike > all here), are the ones offered by Performbetter.com.

    Too soon for a newb.

Rumble Rollers are an advanced staged roller. Here is an explanation of why the rumble roller and PVC pipe is no good for a nub (0:44 to 1:30):

Possibly, but hopefully you wouldn't take it to the point of diminishing returns (view video above).

Also, here's a list of the best self-massage/SMR/etc. tools:

“Go back?" he thought. "No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!" So up he got, and trotted along with his little sword held in front of him and one hand feeling the wall, and his heart all of a patter and a pitter.”

Haha thanks for the info, I figured I should look into it some if I am going to put my body through smolov (& for general use).

Hips/glutes etc get pretty tight I hope this will help alleviate it.

Overall good video on foam rolling. Guy makes a good point as to why the rumble roller is superior to a PVC pipe. I am now considering a rumble roller.

You can use the RumbleRoller straight away. Embrace the pain. There might just be certain body parts you want to work up to it (i.e. hamstrings and IT band).

Anyways, I understand that there may be no long term benefits in terms of RON or flexibility, but I will also be using it for fixing my winged scapula.
Anyways, it's not like in spending 500$ on the thing. 50$ is one heck of a lot cheaper than chiropractic massage (inb4chiropractoreffectivenessdebate)

You can use the RumbleRoller straight away. Embrace the pain. There might just be certain body parts you want to work up to it (i.e. hamstrings and IT band).
If someone has awful tissue quality then starting off on the rumble roller is not a good idea. Too much pain will only make things worse. The end result is being in a worse position than before. Refer to my video above.

If you've never foam rolled, I'd suggest getting something cheaper. A lot of people here want to jump to advanced rollers when they've never rolled in their life. Obviously, this all depends on your tissue quality as Manny up there can roll on PVC from the beginning.
“Go back?" he thought. "No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!" So up he got, and trotted along with his little sword held in front of him and one hand feeling the wall, and his heart all of a patter and a pitter.”

It's best to get both of the rollers I linked. Some areas won't be too painful for the rumble roller while other likely will be. Plus it's nice to warm up before hitting the rumble roller.

For sure. Only bit the bullet since my hamstrings and IT band have been super tight for years. It contributes to pelvic rotation which means more trips to the chiropractor and has been holding my squats back.

Depends. Some people might not be able to use the rumble roller at all. I've personally taken the progression route. The rumble roller is, and always will be until they introduce different levels of density, an advanced roller. There's too much dogma surrounding rolling and an approach where more pain is good. I disagree with this and there should be some pain, not a lot. And more pain can cause some people not to want to roll more. Most newbies are simply not prepared for protruding pieces from the Rumble.

    Just my opinion, of course.

You can stick with the PB Elite Model for years and never have to really progress. It's a really dense roller and it's quality. To get the protrusion from the Rumble Roller, simply purchase a tennis ball then progress from there to things like lacrosse balls and golf balls.
