Why are there so many atheists these days... (srs)(warning dear diary)
How can anyone be sure...
With all the new developments particularly in physics how can any one know with any certainty that what they interpret is really what is happening in the real world and not clouded by biological perception.
When particles can be in multiple places at once (google: double slit experiment); when simply viewing an atom changes how it acts during experimentation (google: measurement problem); when all previously known laws of conventional physics are regularly being broken suggesting other dimensions (google: faster than light neutrino) and when it is thought that these rules may apply to Biology (google: Quantum Biology) what makes anyone so sure to proclaim without a shadow of a doubt that there is no God?
So much it seems is distorted by having a physical body capable of only interpreting things in a biological context constrained by the 4 dimensions of time, length, width and height. Everything is a product of your brain and it's chemical processing of external events which can only detect that which it is programmed to and which gives you information 7 seconds after it has been processed (youtube: neuroscience of freewill). Given these facts how can anyone therefore have complete confidence in any decision they make?
How can the possibility of the existence of God be ruled out by claiming it as being irrational when some of the most important ideas of science came out of acts of pure creative mathematical genus and when much of what we are learning in psychology, neuroscience and physics breaks all held notions of what is ''rationally possible.''
Why is it that all people ponder the existence of a God, if only when faced with their own death? Why is it that Jesus said 'you are in the father and the father in you' and why do monks feel that all life is connected? Why do physicists say that all matter and energy is entangled and sprawled across the universe? Why is it that when particles are separated by thousands of miles can applying a force on one still affect the other despite there being no known connection between the two? (google: quantum entanglement)
What if we don't know ****, what if rational and logic thinking have killed true thought and we have been left with a population of general know it all idiots too arrogant to even acknowledge the existence of a possible God? What if everyone decided to deny personal enquiry and instead listened to pseudo scientists like Dawkins never thinking for themselves?
For your time
Edit - Still don't get it? Still not used to thinking for yourself? Read this...

The OP didn't even mention religion, yet somehow it has one again stemmed into a atheist vs. religion debate of sorts. Most mainstream religions, and the most common one discussed in this thread being Christianity, are dependent on God's existence, however the existence of a creator of sorts is not dependent on say what is written in the bible being true.
The OP's point was that with each passing day we learn more information about the universe that shakes and breaks down our conceived laws of the universe. His extension of that point was if our supposed "laws of the universe" can be proven false, then how can we be so sure there that some sort of divine being does not exist?
The point is, we can't. So it is a logical fallacy to refer to a Creator's existence in absolutes, because we ultimately have no proof to confirm or deny his existence.
Because people are starting to think for themselves.
To me, the bible and its stories are a lot like santa clause. It seems real when you are young but, when you grow up and really understand the story, you realize it sounds like a fairy tale.

You clearly didn't get my post, I'm not taking about the bible or any particular religion or any the events of stories in certain books. I'm taking about the notion of God, I'm talking people getting their head into the primary literature and starting to think of their place within the universe instead of now in the moment, and to think by themselves instead of getting a bastardised version of it from some guru.

What makes you think a 2000+ year old theory is correct?

What theory, theist theory?

On what grounds is my questions, when the fundamentals of reality are being challenged by both physics and psychology how can anyone reject anything? Not sure you are getting my post.
Atheism isn't a claim of ultimate knowledge. It's just a rejection of claims of the existence of an invisible wizard in the sky.
This. Also, agnostic is an epistemological term, not a categorical one. Most people who claim to be agnostics are, in fact, agnostic atheists (as am I).
i'm an atheist in the sense that i don't believe in any religion, nor in the gods as depicted by those religions. Beyond that everything is a matter of what you would consider a "god"

Exactly. Which is exactly one reason why I don't believe in god. I am open minded and skeptical which is, again, why I don't believe in god(s). Don't confuse that for knowing a god doesn't exist.
Gods, in my opinion, are early mans first attempt to explain the how, what, and when of the Universe. Man has an overdeveloped sense of cause and effect and our brains are hardwired for belief. Perfect combination for myth making resulting in invisible all knowing beings seen time and time again in almost all cultures.
Why stop at god? What if there is something out there, something beyond what we could ever possibly imagine, responsible for the Universe.
Why other than atheism, when biology clouds thoughts and judgement why can any thought be valid. When it is obvious that we see things as interpreted to us by our brain, not showing the full extent of reality actually is why ANY theory or thought 'correct.'

You're the first person to get it.
Everything is opinion, every opinion requires faith in some kind of thought pattern based on what they sense - a process being constantly undermined by physics and psychology.
When things can be in two places at once, when observation of an atom causes quantum collapse, an energy, an entity a something out there known as 'God' suddenly doesn't seem so far fetched from my perspective.
Atheism is just the lack of belief in deities. It is not by itself a claim of knowledge. More specifically, it is not by itself a claim to the knowledge that there are no gods. Most atheists simply say that we haven't been given good evidence or reason to accept the claim that there is a supernatural world and that there are deities.
It is true that we don't know much about our universe. But, the scientific method is the only way mankind has found of acquiring reliable knowledge about the nature of our universe. There is no evidence to believe that primitive cultures living two or three thousand years ago had access to a special form of revelatory knowledge that we don't today.
Of course, if someone does claim to have verifiable evidence for such a belief, we should be open to hearing and evaluating it.
Op, i also do not understand how people can be so 100 percent about whether or not there is a god.
Let me try this again...without the sarcasm.
Just for the record, I am atheist.
I think it boils down to not believing in God as humans portray him.
Sure, there may be a higher being out there somewhere but, I do not believe that being is what the Bible says he/she/it is.
We are a very young species compared to the space around us. There is really no way of knowing what exists outside our universe, galaxy or even our dimension for that matter.
WOW brah, go back to college and learn a thing or two in your science classes. You are taking way too much of the sensationalist pseudo science as fact. That is the problem with this youtube educated generation.
A) The latest research regarding the double slit experiment is showing that it is BOTH a particle and a wave. Think of a small drop of water, floating on an oscillation pool of water. It is not one or the other at one certain point, it is always both. Nothing outside the realm of reality.
B) Faster than light neutrinos are HIGHLY theoretical, no one has been able to prove they exist or shown even the slightest amount of evidence for it. Right now it is a just a tantalizing thought. Edit: see my later post for more on this.
There are Atheists because no one has been able to foster even the most minuscule shred of evidence for the existence of a deity. If a god existed, and especially the Judeo-Christian God, I would be the first to be his biggest follower- with that whole eternity in paradise deal. But the sad fact is that is just a fairy tail. Prove me wrong- with concrete evidence.
