That's some good looking gear brah.

I have two small "2 man" tents from Slumberjack that I bought for the kids that have that same exact design internally, only difference is the rainfly vestibule and door are on the long side and it's got a small crossbar that fastens to the top across the X for extra width/stability of the fly in the wind which works freaking great. Those tents are SOLID and handle big wind without issue. Not the greatest for keeping you warm though as they're designed to give good ventilation but they will keep the wind and rain off of you very well. I like that pot set also.

good to hear. I've done mostly car camping with small day hikes but I want to start backpacking so I figured this was a good start. the tent was on sale for today only at rei.com for 74 so I figured i'd pull the trigger

I picked up those two I got from Academy on clearance, $29.99 marked down from $89.99 or so IIRC. I thought they'd be good junk tents for the kids but I was seriously underestimating them and I love those two tents now. Very easy to pack up and light. The rainfly has snap buckles to attach to the bottoms, it's just a great design altogether. When we're feeling spoiled that tent will fit a small twin sized air mattress in it and have just enough room on the side for boots and backpacks and such, perfect for 1 person to sprawl out comfortably or for teh hawt wimenz to sleep on top of you lol. There's a 4 man version as well which I would imagine would be more comfortable for 2 peeps (I cut the ratings in half) but it was $129 and not marked down, been eyeballing that one for like 2 years and guess it's never going on sale.
Here's the one I got, this must be a new model the ones I have look exactly like yours:

Freaking 8' long antenna for my VHF radio. Apparently VHF is a line of site communication so the higher up you can get the further you can go, also helps if you're in big waves to keep the line of site above the waves. I think this is gonna look kinda silly on a bay boat but I'm told everyone has them.

Wife really likes fishing with spoons and the plain Gold or Silver options just get boring. Saw these online today and picked up a Pink and Chartreuse from the first image, and one of each of the other two.

Glock 17 RTF2 - they only made these for 8 months for civilians and I saw one in Gander Mountain so I snatched it up this Wednesday.

If you dont wanna have to baby the engraving with oil 24/7 then wipe a clear coat of fingernail polish over it and be done.

now I just need to get the gf and I packs and sleeping bags and we'll be set
I have both of those and love them! Although I've been considering changing over to a Jetboil Sol, for it's compactness when I'm on solo hikes.

    Bought these today.

Marmot Trestles 15 degree bag. I needed something smaller than my gigantic (but super warm) Big Agnes bag.

Sea to Summit Pocket Body Wash

    A towel similar to this

And an 18oz flask for water. I like the shape of it for easier packing.

I think this is gonna look kinda silly on a bay boat but I'm told everyone has them.

VHF is indeed line of sight, but atmospherics are always at play too. I've talked to units in Iowa from the UP of Michigan before. Our towers are a couple hundred feet tall though. If you're in the gulf several miles off shore and SHTF we shouldn't have a problem hearing you with the stock antena, the real benefit with that new one will be having "good Sam's" who are already underway in the area hear you.

If you really want some distance, get an HF radio. I can pick up Sector San Francisco from here in the right conditions. Of course, you'll only be talking to big ships on that and they might be hundreds of miles away.

I dunno if images work linked to Amazon.

    SOSpenders automatic/manual inflatable life vest.

Got two of these for the boat:
Frogg Toggs "Road Toad" Jacket and Pant outerwear. Light gray with the TX A&M logo on them because they were on clearance, my son likes the Longhorns so he was kinda p/o'd lol.
They have reflective strips down all the seams and a 1" reflective strip in the back, designed for motorcycles but useful in other applications as well.

I've been wanting one of those JetBoils for a while, been using their small little canisters with a Brunton and MSI stove but the Jet is so much cooler of a system.

Thx for the info. I still haven't mounted the antenna yet as it's just freaking huge when I match it up on the boat, but the radio is flush mounted in my dash. I went to mount the little 36" whip and it's so flimsy I can't imagine NOT putting an eye out while rolling through the chop so I didn't mount that one either. I'll be putting the 8 footer on before this weekend as I'm planning to head into the Bay with the two big kids.

So I'm guessing you're USCG by the username (that's a big hint lol) and the VHF post. I've had a few conversations with a recruiter down here back and forth regarding joining up with the reserves, then he's supposed to send me an email with some tests or paperwork or something... now he's gone dark and I can't get the guy to call/email me back. Do I need to keep bugging him or do they not appreciate that?
