Post Question About Competing (Bantomweight OR Novice)

    Hi All,
I am 5.6 inch, 142 lbs, 7.5% body fat. I want to compete in my first ever bodybuilding show.
And I am confused what weight class I should compete.

I just know that bantomweight class limit is <143 lbs.
What are novice weight class limits?
With my current weight of 142 lbs, shall I compete in Bantomweight class or novice weight class?? Or weight classes totally depends on the specific competition.
    Please advise.

    Thanks,
    Pramod

i can't speak for EVERY competition, but i just did my first show and competed in the novice division. they basically weigh all the competitors and split up the class as needed. There were 7 novice competitors at my show, so weights were irrelevant and it was just one big class. If there were 16 competitors, they most likely would've weighed everyone and picked a cut-off weight so that 8 fell in the lightweight class and 8 fell in the heavyweight.

    good luck man.

It all depends on the show and the number of competitors. the show I did had different weight classes for novice and open. I was middleweight in novice and light heavy in the open. classes should be posted on entry form or event flyer.

Well, for my first show I did open bantamweight and novice lightweight. It was a regional NPC show and the novice lightweight was very tough, usually bantamweight classes are very small. I am doing open lightweight at an NABBA show this weekend. If you have the money, it will not hurt to cross between open and novice.
