I was looking at some water that my daughter loves the other day, the cheap sams choice walmart special flavored water She loves the stuff and I looked at the label and to my surprise it has no sugar, clories or even SODIUM.
Looks to be a great diet pop substitue, it still has aspartame but no sodium of caffiene to dehydrate the body.
My question is this: Does carbonated water have the same effect on your bodies hydration as regular water? It seems like this would be a good way to get in tasty water without adding calories...and since there is no caffiene it might even hydrate you just as good as regular water?
It tastes great and helps fill my belly up with the carbonation!

Even with the caff, fluid is going to hydrate you. Some just better than others. Coke actually started advertising on the back of their fridge packs that "sodas can be hydrating". You do get a diuretic effect with caffeine...so you get some and lose a little....
I feel better when I cut back on the soft drinks and artificial sweeteners. For what it's worth...lol

Ive read an article in popular science stating that large amounts of carbonated beverages can weaken your bones over time, especially in girls who are already more prone to osteoporosis later in life. So Id be careful. I dont know how much of it you plan to drink a day, and Im not sure if its a 100% conclusive study, but I think you should research that some more before you make it part of your daily diet.
The aspartame is a whole different issue, but I dont know much about that. I know its argued to be a possible carcinogen along with causing many other nasty things. Im sure youve already heard about that and have your own opinion on whether its ok or not, so its your decision.
I like to stick with water and skim milk.Last edited by crystallinentity; 04-10-2009 at 09:02 AM.

I just googled it and read lots of information.
They all point to the fact that carbonated water is just as good as still water for hydration!
The bones issues come from the caffiene...not the water. the particular water I have is caffiene free so Im gonna drink some everyday.
Feel free to google it for yourself, but it looks to be the same as stil water for hydration but makes you burp and fills your belly better!

Does it have any asp/sucr/splenda in it? All of these "sweetners" can be mothafckas, if not taken in moderation

If the drink has aspartame in it, it is NOT flavored water. Not any more than Coca-Cola is flavored water. The naming is deceptive.
That stuff is tasty but view it like a cigarette after a good workout (Arnold used cigars right?). It's still chit for your body.
Much better alternative: La Croix carbonated water. Ingredients: carbonated water and natural flavors.
And if you really need sweetness to it, add STEVIA. Stevia is the only sweetener that has NO negative consequences. It is even good for your digestive track.
I have tried sodas made with Stevia. They still need to be improved, but they are getting better. Just buy the powder or one of the droppers that make water taste like root beer or other flavors. Great stuff.
ALL the carbonated water does negative is puts added pressure on your kidneys.
