    dips everyday

Anybody here do dips everyday in the name of endurance? If you do dips everyday, could you please tell me exactly what you do?

I am doing dips everyday, trying to increase a rep each day, so far it's been working but sometimes it feels like I'll stall really quick. Just throwing this out there for some input.

Edit: FML doing 3 sets of dips everyday trying to increase a rep each day doesn't work. Will try the 10 sets strategy, see if that works. If it doesn't, it just means doing dips everyday unless you're really underweight.

Regarding "in the name of endurance", pull ups are more strenuous on the body as a whole?

I've been thinking about doing the "10 set" thing every day, where you go 10x1, get better at that and do 10x2 and so on...

If I reach 10x7 it'll definitely mean I'll be able to do 30 dips.

If your mind is set on doing dips bro then that's exactly the way i started out doing pull ups. 10 reps then rest and get back up there to do another 10. Good way to progress into doing 30 straight reps for example.

[dips are great for tris and shoulders....but it depends on the position of the arms....if they are close to the body...they work the tris/delt....if you flare the elbows forward as if you want them to come forward(impossilbe) that give a great position for the chest...it take practice but it works

Sometimes I think about doing the 100 pushup program only using it with dips instead. It would mean I'd have to rest a day in between workouts though so it isn't exactly "doing it every day".

If you want to get better and doing dips then this is a good way to do it, but in terms of actually building muscle it doesn't seem a very efficient way of doing it to me. Also, what type of endurance do you want to build? Just saying you want to build endurance in general is a very arbitrary term

I want to be able to do 30 dips and 15 pullups. Then I'll see where my bench/arms is/are. If it's good enough, I will cut back on the dips and work on bench more.

    No.

Muscle needs to rest in order to grow unless you are on some type of endurance crusade. Increase resistance gradually as you get stronger inside a specified rep scheme to build strength and/or muscle. This pretty much applies to all exercises including dips. Rest appropriately between dipping days depending on how hard you taxed your self with the previous sessions work load. The harder the workload the more time it will take to recover on average.

    Very basic knowledge.

Also, what is the point of increasing dipping endurance? What does one gain? I use dips for chest and triceps development. Nothing else.

    If I can't do 30 dips @ 19, I am just a weak mother-lover and I don't deserve to bench 145.

Before I submit to this "knowledge"(to hell with experience, right?), I am still experimenting with 10 sets of dips. Will see what happens.

Why ask for advice at all if you're going to turn it down when it's given?

If you're looking to get to a heavier bench increasing your endurance isn't how you do it. It's pretty well known that significantly increasing reps into the endurance range will have a minimal at best effect on the overall strength of the muscle. You'll get more endurance, meaning you can lift the same weight more often without tiring.

It's also well known that muscles require recovery time to regrow.

If you just want to do things your way there's no point posting here, do it and tell us how it works out.

It's also well known that bodyweight exercises are easier on the body than barbell exercises. You're acting like I'm ignoring everybody here. I've already accepted the idea that it may not be possible to increase the reps every day. I am just trying a different every-day strategy.

That's the problem, I am not strong enough to just "keep benching". If I cannot do 30 dips, I will not look like I cannot do 30 dips. I won't even be given the chance to bench 145, the spotter would hug the bar for the whole set... because I don't look strong enough to bench it.

If I don't get strong at dips, I won't get stronger at bench and I won't get the chance to earn some respect and bench more in the process.

You'd be better off adding some weight if strength gain is your goal. Not sure what dip endurance would be good for

Man I can't even do 3x5 unweighted... that's why I'm doing them everyday lol

It's better I get the volume in, so I'm more comfortable adding weight.

Also, I'm hoping being able to do 30 dips will make me look/get strong enough for my benching needs.

Once you can do 3x10 unweighted start adding weight. Doing 30 reps is not what you want to do for your goals.

Your benching needs are whatever you can bench right now. Why do you have to do 145 in order to bench? Did you just arbitrarily choose this number?
If you can't, then swallow your ego and start lighter.

What the fukk is your goal with all of this? Extreme local muscular endurance in the triceps?

I'm so lost and confused, I don't even know what the OP is smoking but I know it must be bad for gains.

How many times do I have to tell you?! The spotter will not even let me bench a plate by myself because he doesn't think I can do it!! There's no point in benching if I can't even get a good bench workout!

3x10 dips is not strong enough. Just ask Rippetoe. He's old and fat and he can do better than that...

wouldnt push ups have a better carryover to the bench press?.. and i dunno why you've got an obsession with dips, but if your going to do them atleast do them right in order to reach your goals. its like someone running miles everyday to prepare for a sprint.. it dont make sense mate.

i dont see why you dont just bench, just start lighter. if your 'friend' wont spot you then just find some dumbbells and use them instead. and dont do it everyday, once or twice a week will suffice.

It is hard to do weighted pushups smoothly. It is much more comfortable to add weight to dips. Dips will get me stronger and bigger. Clap pushups are better than dips though, but I can't really do clap pushups...

With the ability to do 30 dips, I'm pretty sure a 145 bench won't be a "sprint".

Dumbells aren't as satisfying to the ego(of an untrained dude) as benching 145... There's no point in doing dumbell benching unless I can bench with 70 pound dumbells.

So I did 10x1 yesterday. It was easy, which I guess it's supposed to be. Will do 10x2 with 2 minutes rest in between, see what happens.

my point is, your training for endurance when your goal is max effort, so in that respect you can compare it to a sprint.

why dont you just start a real program, benching 145 is fak all anyway, i dont think anyone can see the point of what your trying to achieve, more to the point, the way your going about it.

its your call so you can do what you want, but good luck getting there anytime soon.

Some of the best benchers dip heavy. Pat Casey for example dipped with 300 pounds + his 300 pound BW for a total of 600 and he benched 600 back then(inb4 short arms).

I am just dipping so I can get stronger, bigger, and increase my bench. There's nothing "complicated" about this. You show me someone that can do 10x10 dips with a 1 minute rest in between sets that has small arms.
