Lightbulb Poll: Do you eat "clean" or follow "IIFYM"?

I was wondering to myself what the majority of people in this forum follow in terms of food. Do you try to eat clean foods or follow the IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros) motto? Everyone please vote and let me know what you do!

All the biggest people I've seen don't stick to IIFYM. I'd rather stick to broscience which has shown results than sticking to something that people might disregard completely in a year or two as new studies come out.

It's important to realize as a teenager, there's no "clean" or dirty foods. I let this stupid concept dominate my lice for 2 years which spiraled me into an ED as well as health problems.

The way I see it, a calorie is a calorie and food is food.
Use it for fuel, use it to grow.

So, do you just not care about how many "processed" foods you eat? Jw. Most people that eat clean, I think, do so for their internal health and what not.

healthy foods are determined by what you need. If your diet is lacking fats and lots of calories, then you would eat peanut butter. If your diet is lacking vitamins and fiber but you need very little calories, you would eat broccoli.

So you consider the preservatives and all the artificial things in some foods as healthy? Not trying to bash you, just getting your opinion.

Obviously I'm not going to be snacking on slim jims and pop tarts any time soon. Just because I want foods that provide some nutritional benefits. But as far as I'm concerned, the calories that come from pop tarts are identical to calories that come from sweet potatoes, beef, ect.

Yeah I see your view in that perspective, but are you concerned about all the junk in pop tarts that aren't giving you calories? Do you think they are bad health wise?

If I was eating them everyday, then I'd be concerned. But in my opinion, the things that are found in those foods are commonly found in so many other foods now a days. So it's nothing too worry about.

They do stick to IIFYM, they do it while eating 'clean' foods, which people then seem to misattribute as being the cause of their success.

If all a professional bodybuilder ate as carbohydrates was rice and bananas would he still see results? Obviously. Would it be because he chose rice and bananas as his carbohydrate sources? Obviously not.

Too many logical errors like this. Person A. eats 1,000 calories a day whilst doing one leg skipping and drops 40lb's. Therefore one leg skipping is the key to weightloss. etc.

Yes, but that's only because IIFYM is the most ambiguous piece of sh*t ever devised. If you eat rice and bananas, it's IIFYM, if you cheesecakes and chocolate, it's IIFYM. If you don't eat processed foods, it's IIFYM and if you eat only processed foods, it's IIFYM. If you care about micronutrients, it's IIFYM, if you don't care about micronutrients, it's also IIFYM, etc

I don't think ambiguity is really the point.

It's not a religion, it can be whatever the individual wants it to be and simply stresses the importance of macronutrient partitioning.

I honestly couldn't give a crap what people choose to eat, provided that they understand WHY they're making progress (which is NOT because they're eating squeaky clean food), and that applies to everything.

If someone wants to eat healthily, that's fine and great, if someone doesn't, that's fine and great.

If someone wants to eat healthily because they think simply the act of eating healthy food drives changes in body composition, then they obviously don't understand the concept of IIFYM.

Informed decision making. Nothing more, nothing less.

There are always omitted variables or variables that haven't been accounted for.

I like to see people make decisions based on facts and science. To make that decision, you need to acknowledge or at least consider the idea of IIFYM. If you then disagree with it, that's fine. If someone disagrees but can't actually rationalise their reasoning, that's dumb.

I don't know. It's stupid to me. Depending on which camp you subscribe to, IIFYM either means something so completely obvious that it's not worth having an acronym for it, or something so completely radical that I find it ridiculous to believe.

Ka0s :In my experience, doing heavy barbell squats, bench presses, deadlifts, military presses, rows, etc. builds no significant muscle mass.
What you need to really get big is a solid routine which focuses on light weights and cable movements to really force blood into those muscles and get that deep burn & powerful contraction

The only reason to eat "clean" foods would be health purposes. Or the fact the person couldent wrap their mind around IIFYM. IIFYM FTW.
    IIFYM.
