dont think he had much choice lol. him, gasp, demey, paris all look skinny as fukc compared to haney. gasp looked better in 87 imo.
buchanan & benaziza should have placed higher though, true they werent as conditioned but their muscles had more mass & a pop to them that most others lacked.
lol at quoting poundages down to 1/4lb, tho they actually weighed them in back then so they are true."Though the concept is not scientifically validated in detail (it should be considered as a hypothesis rather than a scientific theory), it is useful from a practical standpoint. When training athletes, it is impossible to wait until scientific research provides all of the necessary knowledge." Vladmir M. Zatsiorsky, Ph.D.

They did an official weigh in that year, Gaspari looked fantastic....Demay was outstanding.
Strydom actually competed a week or 2 before at a Chicago pro show and was huge (255ish) but lost to Phil Williams so he decided to drop some weight and come in super conditioned, he lost a ton of size especially in his back which was never a strong point for him anyway.
A 100% full, huge strydom would have been alot of fun to see onstage with Haney.

This was one of the last bodybuilding shows ever shown on TV as far as I remember, they even had commentators on it, which made it even more fun. I watched it with a friend of mine and we both thought Phil Hill should have made the top 3. Giant arms and Legs with a small waist. His frame wasn't tall or wide enough to stand next to Haney I guess...
