    IFFYM (srs)

i'm trying to understand this concept and maybe i'm over thinking it . For the past 2 years i've been on the brodiet and have hated it everyday (chicken, fish, rice, potatos, almonds) same meals day in and day out. Now as far as IFFYM goes from my understanding hit your daily pro/fat and fill the rest as you wish. At 170 lbs i calculated my protein to be 255g thats 170 x 1.5 for fat i got around 68g so as long as i hit those two i can fill the rest with anything.
The past 2 weeks i've been swamped with school with tests and **** so i havent been cooking at all been eating out which sucks but keep it simple right? anyways IIFYM can i eat whatever period as long as i hit my macros ? i understand incorporating chicken and steak and potato is suggested and then add whatever like ice cream and whatever. Basically this week im fcuked and cant cook i plan on eating 2 meals at home and filling the rest in out work. can this be done for a cut or am im not keeping it simple and should resort back to brodiet ?

    srs thread is srs

    thanks for enlightening a noob

IIFYM isn't as much of a diet as a philosophy. I eat plenty of good whole foods and I don't always reach for ice cream etc when I need to fill my macros. Its knowing that you can choose to fill the rest of your macros with something that isn't considered "bro diet" and still pursue your goals. Just eat smart..you know how to do it. I'm 170 lbs also, I only shoot for 200-220g of protein a day, but again its all personal preference. If you enjoy eating that much protein, then go for it. Again, if you can't have all of your set in stone meals at home..use good judgement and fill your macros how you'd like.

I feel you, I used to be super strict on my eating habits. I follow IIFYM, but I also enjoy my "bro" foods. I eat them though because I enjoy them, not because they yield some magic benefit. Don't stress over diet man, trust me that is the last thing we need to stress about. You know how to eat smart and accordingly for your goals, why stress?

You can drop the protein down, anything over 1g per pound is usually unnecessary. Hence why I only consume around 200g and I weigh 170 too, I don't enjoy eating mass amounts of protein. Eating should always be fun, knowing you have the ability to eat in moderation and still pursue a goal is fun.

What you need to understand is how one's diet contributes to bodyweight and composition. Energy intake (calories) is the governor of bodyweight, with micro/macronutrient sufficiency playing a role in terms of body composition.

How you meet your nutritional needs is largely a function of personal preference.

Yes, it really is that simple.

Lol yes, why wouldn't you? Also, you said you don't like that much protein, so you definitely don't need to be eating your body weight x 1.5 in grams of protein. 1g per pound of LEAN BODY MASS is sufficient.

I personally don't. I keep the tracking mainly from the protein sources themselves (the chicken, the steak, the eggs etc.), and track the carbs from the carb sources.

You can track it however you like, as long as you keep it consistent with that preference. There's plenty of bodybuilders who do it that way, and many who don't.
