How import is a pre workout for muscle growth?

It seems like the majority of the built guys on this site are always using a pre workout. I used super pump for about a month before I was getting a head ache every time I lifted so I had to stop. I was dead lifting more weight than ever, the pwo made me feel a lot stronger, and idk if I just strained something or if it was the actual pwo giving me the headache. So i'm hesitant to try one out again, but if it truly has a significant increase in muscle size versus not using it, i'll have to reconsider.

a pre-workout supp wont by itself have u have bigger gains... it will allow you to be able to bang out a few more reps, lil more weight, etc...

what makes you gain size is food and rest...

It will help you push a few more reps and weight. But like he said rest and your food is more important

Pre-workouts are optional and a luxury item, they are certainly not needed. They do help you push it in the gym and have better workouts however.

It depends, some chemicals they use in preworkouts actually contribute to added muscle mass and increased strength, for example beta-alanine.

OP....you are not the first or will be the last to .have these "headaches"...my only guess is that you are sensitive to caffeine..or maybe you need to eat something prior taking your preworkout...I do sometimes get slight headaches when I work in a "fasted state"...

But to answer your question, yes, for me, preworkout drinks help me get "bigger and stronger" (along with the right diet)...One of the best preworkout drinks on the market now is ErgoPump. While its not "overpowering" with stims, it is formulated to provide endurance and focus to help you reach your goals.

The only pre-workout I have ever taken is creatine. I have never felt the need to try any pre-workout.

Like dima43 said, pre workout sups won't build muscle. Breaking muscle down and eating enough protein to repair it does. The main thing is to get your diet right and get REST. They just give you more energy and focus. It's just a crap load of caffeine, creatine, and nitric oxide. They have their uses, but you don't really need them. If you want pre workout energy, use them. But you can just drink some coffee and eat a banana.

not at all important unless you have a strong stimulant dependency to become motivated.

See I have zero problem with motivation. I've always been a very driven person and when I want it I get it. I just hear the NO part is what is supposed to be so beneficial.

What you EAT 2 hrs preworkout and postworkout is far more important than a preworkout. To me a preworkout just ensures that food is being shuttled to the working muscles through good solid workouts.

in my case i always trained without any pwo type (not even coffee or banana) but latety i've been trying some samples and if the product works for me, i feel much better lifting with that aid. i think that if you train hard enough, your body is forced to get bigger and a pwo is conceived to do that
