It seems like the majority of the built guys on this site are always using a pre workout. I used super pump for about a month before I was getting a head ache every time I lifted so I had to stop. I was dead lifting more weight than ever, the pwo made me feel a lot stronger, and idk if I just strained something or if it was the actual pwo giving me the headache. So i'm hesitant to try one out again, but if it truly has a significant increase in muscle size versus not using it, i'll have to reconsider.

a pre-workout supp wont by itself have u have bigger gains... it will allow you to be able to bang out a few more reps, lil more weight, etc...
what makes you gain size is food and rest...Patience - Dedication - Determination - Time

OP....you are not the first or will be the last to .have these "headaches"...my only guess is that you are sensitive to caffeine..or maybe you need to eat something prior taking your preworkout...I do sometimes get slight headaches when I work in a "fasted state"...
But to answer your question, yes, for me, preworkout drinks help me get "bigger and stronger" (along with the right diet)...One of the best preworkout drinks on the market now is ErgoPump. While its not "overpowering" with stims, it is formulated to provide endurance and focus to help you reach your goals.

Like dima43 said, pre workout sups won't build muscle. Breaking muscle down and eating enough protein to repair it does. The main thing is to get your diet right and get REST. They just give you more energy and focus. It's just a crap load of caffeine, creatine, and nitric oxide. They have their uses, but you don't really need them. If you want pre workout energy, use them. But you can just drink some coffee and eat a banana.
