Does Vizio make good TVs? Vizio 42" 1080p 60Hz LED HDTV $498.00

This TV is on sale Saturday at Walmart. Vizio TVs are cheap but are they good quality? I'll be using it for video games and hooking my laptop up to it to watch movies.

Yeah they are respectable. When I was looking into tvs I read they use quality components same as sony or samsung, forgot which, but are assembled in a different factory.

they have a great picture but ive had one issue with mine... the remote sensor stopped working so no remote works on it. i googled it and found its not an uncommon problem with vizios. its not THAT big of a deal for me since mine stays on the hdmi port to play games, but still...

dont buy a tv with 60hz especially an lcd/led. Itll look like sh*t when the picture is moving. Video games especially will have alot of ghosting. Get a plasma or 120hz lcd/led. Or just buy that peice from walmart and not be happy.

led is better, makes for a brighter picture and thinner tv... but also more expensive. heres an lcd 120hz for about the same price as the vizio. i work at best buy and can honestly say insignia is a great brand, and the price is right since it is best buys home brand

Got a 42" Vizio 1080p LCD in my living room.

    Love it.

Pretty sure my refresh rate is higher than 60Hz though.

I will just tell you this story:

I bought a 55" LG 3D LED TV a few months ago. When the guy delivered it in the morning, he complimented me on the TV and said it was a good choice. He said it was good I didn't get a Vizio. He showed me his clipboard with his delivery schedule for the day: every other trip that day was to return a Vizio TV. He said almost all of his deliveries were returning defective Vizios. He said whenever he delivers a Vizio he tells the customer to keep the box and all the packaging (lol).

    True story (srs).

It is not worth saving 10% to take a gamble on a generic piece of crap.

make sure the input lag isnt ridiculous (srs)

this is not refresh rate or pixel update speed

I bought a top of the range LG LED cinema-3D TV and had to take it back because of the unacceptable 100ms lag for gaming

    Faster Speeds, Better Picture Quality?
Faster is better right? Not always. Movies and TV broadcasts are filmed at 24Hz so the TV has a lot of work to do bringing that up to 240Hz by repeating the frame 10 times every 24th of a second. The speed of the refresh rate alone doesn’t do much to improve the picture quality and reduce motion blur as it just repeats the same frame more times.

Is it worth spending the extra money to go for a 240Hz LCD over a 120Hz one? At the moment not yet as the main differences are imperceptible. Reducing motion blue is done by pre-processing using a scanning backlight or MEMC (Motion Estimation Motion Compensation) rather than speeding things up. The faster TV may score well in things like test patterns, but in real life you won’t really notice the difference. MEMC is a clever way of reducing motion blur by predicting where the image will be in between frames. For example, the TV will take frame 1 and frame 2 and repeat them 5 times per 24th second. But, it will also add its own frame in between 1 and 2 by combining the two frames and using prediction. The idea is to simulate a 48Hz signal into the TV. This is the technology that reduces motion blur.

lol @ everyone acting like a 60Hz tv is terrible. 120Hz tvs make movies look like PBS specials and make bad special effects even worse. for pc gaming I'd get one but an xbox isn't going to push out 120 frames per second in anything. Ill wait on replacing my Samsung 60Hz LCD when the 120Hz tech doesn't make things look cheap.

120hz is actually 60hz, the tv makes its own frames inbetween if you turn on that setting (film mode/motion enhance etc) the ghosting is because of the pixel refresh (when you see a time in the specs like 5ms or 10ms). Also 240hz tv's are still only 60hz refresh and if you turn on the full setting it is making up 3/4 of your frames.

VIZIO LCDs are legit. Their defective rate is really no better or worse than any other LCD manufacturer... you should keep the box and packaging for as long as you can for ANY HDTV. 120hz is the minimum if you're gaming on it. 240hz is just fluff talk and makes no real difference for gaming purposes. Response time and input lag should be as low as possible also.

They aren't generic pieces of crap lol. VIZIO is one of the top LCD manufacturers.
