Im hearing different answers on this question. My anatomy professor told us, she doesn't condone smoking weed but its a myth that it kills brain cells. Even my friends had an argument about this over the weekend.

There is some research that states that it does, but there's also some that states that it doesn't. So, it's pretty much up in the air at this point. Although, I'm sure people on here will disagree, I don't feel that it does. I smoked just about every day over the summer, a few times a day, and I don't feel any less intelligent that I did before. Also, when you're smoking, you feel much more intelligent, although I'm sure this is just a subjective effect of smoking. So, in summary, I can't make an argument based on scientific fact, but I personally feel that it does not.
"It's kind of amusing, I've always felt, how people I know now treat me like I'm this confident respectable man with talents and a good personality, and yet I can remember the hard arduous path I took to get to this point.
But people never see the process. They only see the results. That's all they care about. What you've done, what you've accomplished, what you can show for it."

The study that supposedly suggested that marijuana kills brain cell has been disproven many times not only from other studies but lack of clarification and any legitimate research from the researchers. It's all propaganda dawg, sorry. Smoke weed.

Remember how those scientists gave monkeys weed and said their braincells died?... Well what those scientists didn't say was that they put masks on those monkeys and pumped out so much smoke that is not possible for a human to take in at one time. They monkeys lost braincells not because they smoked weed but because they suffocated.

Here are some studies i read on how Cannabis effects the brain, seems that there is strong evidence that long term use has strong negative effects on cognitive abilities.
1. If cannabis caused schizophrenia--how many cannabis users may need to be prevented in order to prevent one case of schizophrenia? England and Wales calculations.
Addiction. 2009 Nov;104(11):1856-61.
2. Cannabis and suicide: longitudinal study.
Br J Psychiatry. 2009 Dec;195(6):492-7.
3. Cannabis use and the risk of developing a psychotic disorder.
World Psychiatry. 2008;7(2):68-71.
4. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol effects in schizophrenia: implications for cognition, psychosis, and addiction.
Biol Psychiatry. 2005 Mar 15;57(6):594-608.

I've done my fair share of reasearch on the topic, as I had to write a paper and give a speech. And from what I have gathered it only has a negative effect on your short term memory and your motor skills (while you're high of course)
No negative long term affects.☆☆☆misc boxing crew☆☆☆

I've read studies that say all cognitive impairment caused by long-term use disappears after you stop consuming it. ^

from study: In a 3-day, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study, the behavioral, cognitive, motor, and endocrine effects of 0 mg, 2.5 mg, and 5 mg intravenous Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Delta-9-THC) were characterized in 13 stable, antipsychotic-treated schizophrenia patients. These data were compared with effects in healthy subjects reported elsewhere.
