Good money in that + if you get a reserve at a place that lets you work security you can do uniformed security and usually line up steady gigs. Entirely possible to bank six figures doing that. Only reason I don't is 1. No insurance/benefits/pension. 2. Its not a guaranteed paycheck. 3. Turbulent world and things can change and your out of a job.
Where we work our pension is insane though. 99.9% for life if you retire at 30 years. 83% if we retire at 25 years. If I go out at 30 years I'll be 54 years old and will have a six figure pension for the rest of my life... Kinda hard to pass that up.
A patrol officer can/will get into far more chit then those other things. A lot of the big cities they have so many time constraints they really aren't getting a chance to do the cool stuff. Federal agents are basically just paper pushers unless you are on a special task force. Etc.
I know a few regular patrol officers in small/moderate size cities who've been in 3-5 shootings. Any time the major chit goes down they'll be first on scene.
