This whole affirmative action thing is a bunch of BS, why do companies do this?

I found out from my buddy today that asians no longer count as minorities in certain companies and for grad school, lolololol

but that got me thinking about it, why do blacks and hispanics get preferential treatment over me, when I grew up in the same neighborhoods and on the same income?

and what gives companies and grad schools the right to say that asians shouldn't get preferential treatment, aren't they minorities as well? So if your race comes over and does well you don't get any preferential treatment?

i think if they're gonna do the whole affirmative action thing it should be done based on income and background as opposed to just skin color

Yes when I worked at HP, they made 50+ % of the management women, even though they made up a small % of the areas workforce and most were inept.

This. where I work they tell me that a woman who is less qualified and has worked there less time than I have has a better chance at getting a management position if everything else is equal because of the benefits the companies big wigs receive.

You're honestly going to say that racism is dead? I can tell you from experience that it isn't... Do you know what it feels like when someone flicks you off and says go back to where you came from? That was only 2 years ago.

It also goes a bit deeper than, "he's black so we'll hire him." One person doesn't get the job just because he/she isn't white. The two people may be similar but they are not the same. No two people will ever be the same. Hiring another race brings in new perspectives into the company. You can't tell me that I wasn't raised different than a white kid.
