Pics attached.
These pics were just taken as I currently stand just over 5'6 approximately 168lbs
I have really skinny wrists/ankles so I think I have a thin bone frame (also big injury history with sports) incase 168 sounds light. But I am by no means big or jacked.
I used to be about 210lbs 4 years ago, lowest I've gotten was 148 back around february of this year, but I was skinny fat and not happy with it at all. I have since definitely put on muscle and strength, though my arms till seem to be lacking.
My big issue is the belly and chest are looking pretty chubby again and I'm wondering if it might be time to start trying to trim down again soon?
Note that I am no longer playing sports competitively, nor am I a "bodybuilder" or looking to be the hulk. I wanna be lean and in good shape.
Pics below, comment on what you think please. Will rep for what its worth.

Help me understand why you & the other guy suggest immediate cutting? Wouldn't he benefit in the long run, if he just continued to lift and follow a diet? Wouldn't even eventually even out, or perhaps get a better "use" of his current fat in terms of strength, and then cut later when he adds more muscle mass?
I am in the same situation, 5'8 173lb and my chest seems to be less chubby but my stomach is like 3 times worse than what he has considering I rushed and lost 70lb in 5 months.
Should I be cutting down as well then, instead of bulking and working on gaining mass so I can cut later?

It's all up to you. I do this because I want to look good,so in either case I would cut. If you're already fat, why put more fat on? If you're a powerlifter or just really into strength, then that's your bag. I assume the vast majority of people do this so they can have sex with the lights on.

If someone bulks at 20+ BF, it's just going to take them from fat to disastrously fat--because, even under the most ideal circumstances, a bulk means you're going to get fatter.
Now, if going from fat to disastrously fat doesn't bother you, be my guest. But if you have any ambition for leanness, why not save yourself from having to endure some insanely long cut later?[Watdo? Crew] - GET HENCH!

the idea is that I do want to look good. I just know in the past when I tried cutting I was skinny fat and it didn't look too great, so I had to start bulking and trying to put on more muscle. now that I've done so, I just didn't know if it'd be enough to be worth cutting. Obviously its hard to tell with my bf%. I just remember at 145 i had alot less muscle last time and everyone said it looked like i hadnt lifted a weight in my life.
Hopefully it goes better this time.
I'll start cutting i think at the start of November, and for the next week start formulating my diet/routine

It's up to you. You aren't ridiculously fat to the point where losing fat is a must. You can either cut now and bulk later, or bulk now and cut later. One way, you'll have longer to cut. The other, you may lose a bit of muscle while cutting and have to bulk longer. Benefit of losing fat first, you see your results better when bulking due to lower body fat. I kinda looked like that at 220lbs. so I started cutting. I didn't like having chest chub either. So if you want to get rid of it, cut. Simple.

yeah, its not as bad as it appears i think. I know with a shirt on I look fine for the most part, some rounding but not much. I just need to start cleaning up
I actually don't regret bulking the last few months. my cut was going nowhere cause I had nothing to show under the fat.
I think I'm gonna start cutting as soon as I've got a diet/routine laid out.
I will def be doing cardio so I can eat a bit more, does something like getting the weights done 4 days per week and cardio 5-6 days sound like it'll be worth doing?
My thought is heavy and compound lifts, get weights done in ~40mins, then do cardio after (20 mins)
and on non-lift days just do 45mins of MI cardio?
I kind of want to try rolling with that and see how it goes

Thank you for the vivid responses & OP sounds good, don't limit yourself to how long it takes you to do your lifts, who cares, unless you got to be somewhere right after. As far as cardio, 20 minutes before or after sounds good, even later in the day - that's what I did/doing. On non-lift days I'll usually do it up to an hour yeah.

Didn't mean to sound like a douche brah. My apologies, and just make sure you cut slow, 500 cal deficit, in order to preserve lean body mass you built from bulk. When you bulk again, take things slow and don't use a big surplus. 200-300 above maintenance is (lean bulk). Goodluck brah
1k+ 100% of the time

no offense taken dude. i know i def look like i need to cut. with a shirt on i honestly look like im in good shape which is why i've been bulking, so i can lean up and look decent without the shirt lol.
I knew i'd be starting a cut within the next month or 2, just figured it was time to ask if i should start now. I plan on this taking a while to get to where I want anyways.

Not to steal your thread, but I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm 6'3' and weigh 217lbs. I've been doing a workout geared toward fat burning just to get rid of a few inches around the waist that I accumulated during the winter. I weighed around 225lbs with little muscle mass when I started the workout about 5 months ago so it’s worked fairly well. I've gotten stronger and my arms, chest, and core have definitely improved some. I do however have a little more flab around the mid section than I'd like and I can't seem to get rid of it. A proper diet isn't really possible right now since I'm deployed to Afghanistan and have limited options. I'm not sure if I should continue with the fat burning workout to lose the flab or switch to a workout geared toward muscle gain and continue to eat the best I can and see what happens. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Mike
