I've been lifting weights for 7 years and dont have much to show for it

Its kinda gotten me down. I've been consistent in my efforts in hitting the gym, but I've wasted time doing sub par workout routines and having a crappy diet.
I just recently remedied this. I'm going to keep a track of my weights and concentrate on the basics now.

Its just unsettling that it took me this long to put my foot down. I could've been stronger/bigger/leaner if i had planned from the start. theres a cloud of regret that looms over me

Well all have those "what if" moments. I bet most bodybuilders would've liked to have started earlier, or similar to your case, at least pushed themselves at an earlier date. But the important thing to consider is that those bodybuilders eventually stepped up their game at one point in time. Now that you realize what you've gotta do, I think it's your time now.
Follow these guys, hilariously epic. @SchmuckLeague

Can't change the past, all you can do is shape the future. I'm 33 and spent the last 7 years being a total fat ass. I don't have any regrets and I don't think about woulda, shoulda, coulda type stuff because all that does make me get pissed at myself and serves no useful purpose.

Time is going to pass by either way. You can spend it feeling sorry for yourself of you can do something about it.

Probably not as big a waste as you think but you said it: clean up your diet. Also track your workouts as well so you can make sure you are doing more over time.
