OP, most physics majors will at least do some quantum field theory in their senior year, and abstract algebra and complex analysis are a must for any form of quantum field theory. Many schools also offer intro to general relativity, which requires at least some elementary differential geometry and topology.
I've know many physics majors who have switched to math, but never any math majors switching purely to physics. Sorry.

Bachelors in Mathematics/Bachelors in Philosophy here
Really enjoy math....It is a really in demand major in my opinion right now.
Wasn't hard for me but I have an analytical mindset. Hard for me to step out of my shoes and say math is hard. When I tell people I majored at math they look at me like I am nuts.
Personally I think math is extremely foundational. I have done a large amount of tutoring and the common issue is people don't understand the basics which travel up the chain.
Abstract Algebra and Real Variables are difficult. Got A's in them somehow but I worked the hardest I ever have for a class..."Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does." -William James

What's your school? Show me the curriculum of their senior year quantum mechanics course (usually quantum mechanics II or III).
As for your TA, he probably came from a very low ranked school or probably didn't even do physics for his undergraduate. If he's an experimentalist, then obviously he wouldn't need any abstract algebra.

As a former math major, I second this motion but it's worth mentioning that Chem E, EE, and Physics are pretty damn hard too and at some departments more rigorous than math.
I'd say Real Analysis, Logic, Chaos Theory, Fluid Dynamics, and Quantum Mechanics are probably the hardest classes an undergrad can take.***Distal Clavicle Resection Crew***

The University of Arizona. You can browse around there if you want, not doing it for you. Physics undergrad does not require you to understand the math courses you listed in real depth. Prove me wrong.
My TA went to the University of Texas-Austin (Ranked 14 for Physics) where he got his undergrad in Physics.
