i want to go on something my mom migth ligthen upp i was wondering starting off on l-glutamine?
is this a good supplement? i am still unclearwhat it does for u though can u explain....
L-Glutamine is used for it's anti-catgabolic properties. It is most effectively used while on a cutting cycle.
It's pretty expensive. I would find something else to spend my money on.
A few good articles to inform yourself with. Just a word of advice though, you should really know what it is and why you want to take it before you even buy it. Don't buy it just so you can say that you take it. If I were you (although I don't know your personal knowledge of nutrition or training) I would just stick with a good protein and read all that you can so one day you can make informed decisons about proper training and nutritional theory. I don't want this to come off as a flame, all I am saying is read, research,...learn. Glutamine is a very worthwhile supplement to some but you have to know the why's and how's to truly appreciate it.

Depends on who you talk to, some swear by it from experience and others call it worthless based on studies.
Originally posted by iamtheking why dont u try creatine? i mean most people are making gains with it. but ur currently on a cutting phase so maybe u shouldnt.
I think he should be taking protein before creatine........

That isn't the point of the thread. He was asking about glutamine.
I personally swear by it, but I think it is more important to have your diet and training in check first before buying more supplements.
Glutamine is a non-assential amino acid which is one of the most prevelant aminos in the body, esp. in skeletal muscle. Under heavy training, your body uses a lot of its own glutamine, hence supplementing with it delays catabolism and enhances nitrogen uptake to your muscles. It has also been used effectively in the treatment of burn victums and others with injuries.
That doesn't seem to expensive and you get a lot of uses out of it. This is waht I have.
That's some nice sensorship happening there... LOL!
You have to agree that coming onto a board and saying "Hey i want to take L-Glutamine, but i dont know what it is, or what it does" is a pretty rediculous concept.
Do you remember your Mummy telling you not to look in the medicine cabinet and start eating all those little white pills??

Thats right.
Learn using the search button. When i first began becoming interested in lifting, i did a lot of reading (mainly from bb.com) and i learnt a lot.
Infact i spent about 2 - 3 months reading up on nutrition and lifting before i even came to these boards.
For me it was much more efficient to learn this way, and it should be for anyone else.
