The test event finished yesterday, results are on IWF's website. Won't be much happening until the actual event in summer now.
Here's some more photos and a video I managed to get in the warm up room during the Mens 94kg snatch.
The guy snatching in your vid is an estonian guy called Leho Pent if Im right. Will be rooting for him in the olympics too ( because I am an estonian nomsayin?)

You're correct. A guy he was with, not his coach, was talking to me about how he (Leho pent) is the first Estonian weightlifter in the Olympics for ages and the last one was his (the guy i was talking to's) father who won a gold and a silver. He also said that he hasn't qualified yet though.

Yeah. During the Soviet times when we had Jaan Talts I think he broke like 40+ world records and won many olympics aswell ^^

Yeah the guy I was talking to was Jaan Talt's son, the big guy in the blue t-shirt who comes over and helps load plates in the video. Said he was estonian champion in shotput.

We should start some form of meetup for those going to London to watch the Olympics. If work and personal life allows, I'll be there (I already have tickets for the men's 94kg cat).
I know London fairly well and can help others with accommodation suggestions and gyms to train at (you will be surprised how underdeveloped the London weightlifting scene is).
All the best.

I haven't logged into my bb.com account in probably a year, but had to just now so that I could say, "Wow!"
Carry on.
ME TOO! Gosh I didn't learn about olympic lifting till atleast 3 years after I started looking at bb.com... to think how wet those pictures posted got me. lOl
Had the first "training" session for the real event at the weekend, was basically just a show and was essentially pointless but I got a couple of pics anyway.
All those people there are other volunteers, only 1/20 of the total volunteers apparently (not all for weightlifting ofcourse :P )
With the olympic mascots lmao

I'll be moving to London sometime this fall (unfortunately this will probably be after the Olympic games so won't see those) to work there and I'm looking for gyms/athletic training centers which have lifting platforms.
Can you name some facilities that have a decent weightlifting/strength and conditioning room (some nice power racks in addition to the Oly platforms) as well as a place to throw shot put? I've heard Lee Valley is supposed to be such a place, what else is there?

What a great experience, thanks for sharing. Have a great time!
Being a real lifter is not about a number, or a medal, or somebody else telling you that you are a real lifter. It is about commitment to the iron and strength of purpose.
So jealous, I should have done the same but I'm only getting into oly weightlifting now and so it didnt occur to me at the time. Have a great time and report back as many of us will have to vicariously live through your experience!
Also why are our mascots one-eyed STD infested cocks? Welcome to Britain lol

Hahaha, yeah silly logo and strange mascots. Not quite sure how they came up with this rubbish..

LOL it does look like that actually. It wasn't a weightlifting platform, just a stage for them to host their 'introduction show' for the volunteers.
Also, as an extra little info snippet. For the paralympic bench press, they've had to get specially made 50kg plates in case that Rahman dude benches over 300 as without them they wouldn't be able to fit the collars on the bar with 25kg plates. There's a lot of confusion as to how they'll actually load the 50 plates onto the bar as well because the legal limit for manual handling in the UK is 25kg lol. Also there's obviously no grooves/handles on the plate which means it'll be awkward as hell to pick up, need a strong ass pinch grip.

What is this manual handling law that you speak of?

Had final training today. Training hall opens tomorrow but I'm finishing up my internship so I don't start until Saturday. Looked round the training hall today, looks amazing. Unfortunately there's pretty tight regulations on what I can post on the internet so I can't post photos or videos until after the games are finished, but I'll update as text until then.

Had my first shift this afternoon. Training hall is still pretty quiet, none of the big teams have come in yet. From the top of my head the ones I saw today were Venezuela, Vietnam, Taipei, India, South Africa, USA, Cameroon.
Saw Kendrick Farris, dude's JACKED, he looked more like a 94. He only trained for about 30 mins and I missed most of his session as I was off doing jobs.
Interestingly Iran and Russia are booked in the same group so they will be training at the same time, whenever it is they turn up.

Kendrick Farris was in training again today, along with North Korea team (including some chick with MASSIVE quads), Cameroon, Australia, Philippines and Mexico.
Had a pretty long conversation with Kendrick's coach. He's power jerking now.

Sweet Jesus: The full Eleiko set up: bars, plates, stands and even jerk boxes!
Any idea of where this equipment will go once the games are over? I'm moving to London in about 2 months time and I'd sure love to train on it.
