I read another post on this site by "whitechocolate" and he mentions fast acting and slow acting proteins:
THIS IS HIS POST
-------------------
slow acting: milk, cottage cheese
fast acting: egg, whey
moderate actating: chicken, fish, meat in general
slow acting is good before bed and fast acting is good PWO or first thing in the morning. hope this helps
--------------------
So, a few questions:
1. is PWO preworkout or postworkout?
2. Where do almonds and peanuts fall in the fast/slow acting protein list?
3. Whey is just skim milk, right?
My workout will be full body mon/wed/fri, with 3 sets of 5 for fast twitch muscles Monday and Wednesday (to train strength) and 3 sets of 8 on Fridays (to promote hypertrophy).

Let me try to understand this then. Meal timing is irrelevant for body composition. Digestion rates of protein does not matter. Eating cottage cheese before bed to promote muscle re-cooperation/eggs in the morning is pointless.
So, because meal timing does not matter, I don't have to eat a high-protein meal an hour before workout or hour after? then what the HELL is the point of drinking protein shakes before and after?

You've already answered your own question: There is no point.
All that matters is that you get your required protein, fat, and calories sometime between the time you wake up and go to sleep. The anabolic "window" is 24-hours long.
Try to stick with whole foods instead of supplements to meet those requirements, since they usually provide more micronutrients.

Actually... It's more likely that meal timing will matter more for the "average Joe" who is getting less than optimal doses of nutrients. Those who meet all necessary nutrient intakes with plenty to spare, are almost always running at optimal health and development levels at all times. Juggling meals will have little effect.

Doesn't matter when I get it (nutrition), as long as I get it. I'm relieved to know that it's a lot less complicated than I made it out to be, but just know that I didn't make all this crap up. This is the result of countless bodybuilding magazines, websites, and...forums. Didn't appreciate the hostility, but at (the very) least I got some eventually solid answers.
3x5 mon wed, 3x8 fridays. sets of 5 mondays and wednesdays for strength, sets of 8 fridays for hypertrophy. hope that's not bull**** either...

That is total bull****, of course the timing matters.. I was not believer in protein shakes and supplements either.. I would cycle creatine every now and then, and the only supplements that i was taking on a daily basis were Multivitamins and fish oil, and then i started taking protein shake and bcaa before workout and protein shake and glutamine after workout.. Within 3 or 4 days, i was f**king shocked.. Nothing in my diet has changed, nothing in my exercises has changed, equipment was the same, yet all of a sudden i was able to do 30-50% more reps, and i increased weight in all my exercises by at least 15%.. That's after 4 days, you heard me right.. My muscles were bigger, and fuller in the evening as well as in the morning when i wake up.. And all that within couple of days..
Another thing, i wasn't tired during the workout almost at all, i had full control over weights during each and every rep. I am 33 now,I have been doing body weight exercises, and weight lifting exercises for the better part of my life (as a part of my judo and karate workout routine) and that was the first time in my life that i was feeling like that...
Like i said i was skeptic regarding supplements too. I too was thinking that all you need to do is eat "normal food" and that's it, but apparently i was wrong. Of course it matters when you eat and what you eat, when it comes to exercise. I mean i see your point.. The overall calories intake is important in the macro picture, but if you don't eat well and supplement before training, your training session will suck - period! And anyone who disagrees with that obviously has no fing clue what he's talking about..
It's true that most of the supplements on the market are bull****, and while they may help you a little bit, they are not that helpful and certainly not essential, but saying that protein shakes are bull****, well that's just... wrong.
This is not something i read, or someone else's opinion i heard somewhere, this is something i tried on my own body in my own workout routine and i know it works. I see the results.. They might not be essential in the way, "you will not die if you don't take them", but will they help and are they fake well i certainly know the answer to that question, and i know that i will continue to take them.. Comparing to the results i am getting now I just keep thinking how many workouts i have wasted so far, by not taking any supplements, due the bro science i was listening to in the past...
Name a single pro bodybuilder and serious athlete, that doesn't take supplements i mentioned.. So, while i see your point, and the overall diet is important, in this particular case you are wrong..
No offense.. Peace bro
