That IS a sea-gull movement, but it's also not an illegal clone, it's a copy of an old movement from minerva or some **** that went out of business.. I played with in Switzerland and It looks really freakin' cool. Worse comes worse if it fails, buy another for $50 online take it to a watchmaker and you're set for around 70 bucks total. That dial does seem a little Panerai like to me.. but it looks like an alright deal - just be careful with the crown and you'll be good.

intradasting. care to explain it a wee bit more? how would that negatively affect the movement? Also do I have to worry about this on a quartz? (may be stupid questions but im still in the beginner stages about learning about how movements work and schit)
edit: I looked again and I really like that Magrette. That price is pretty attractive too..***Canadian Crew***

It's a mechanical movement just like automatics, but without a rotary weight to drive the winding mechanism. Thus, it must be hand-wound via the crown. Quartz watches use batteries, where as automatic/mechanical use a spring to story energy and then an escapement mechanism to regulate the spring's output. Kinetic movements use a rotary weight to charge up a capacitor, which allows for longer power reserve, but these still use quartz to regulate the time.
What they're saying is that since the crown is also screw-down, you are going to be screwing/unscrewing it every couple of days, which would wear on the threads and increase the risk of cross-threading.

Oh, I couldn't imagine cross-threading my PRC200, the crown has nearly 0 wiggle room when pulled out. It ultimately comes down to the quality of the machining of the threads on the stem and the tube, and of the fit/finish of the stem. The PRC has crazy spring-pressure against the crown, so it's pretty hard to push in and turn it at the same time to line the thread openings up, but thankfully it's a quartz and only needs to be done once every 2 months.

^^I have the exact same color scheme just with the ray. No numbers just markers a la submariner. You'll love it man, perfect weight, finish and fit IMO. Ill put it away and wear a different watch for a few days and go right back to that bad boy asap.

Finally got my '74 5513 Sub back from the watchmaker, looks so good man!
What I wore when it was in the shop, old rusty Timex that my dad wore when he got the Rolex serviced years ago...

What would you brahs recommend for sub $200? Prefer auto. I love the look of the Tissot Le Locle, so something of a similar style/size would be perfect.

Really diggin' that black magrette for some reason. I could totally see that on my wrist. Some days I feel like a serious victim of watch acquisition ADD. I can't even imagine how many I'd have if money were no object.
Edit: You know what.. Screw it.. I'll put a deposit on one. If I don't like it enough to keep it I'll sell it for a marginal loss.Last edited by EdmundGTP; 05-08-2012 at 11:35 AM.

Had my Seiko SNN231 for a few weeks now - fantastic watch. Very attractive dial, lume is quite good, chrono is useful and accurate, and it oddly remind me of the Omega Speedmaster.. you can create so many looks with this watch, leather it's professional, rubber it's sports, nato it takes on a military look very well. Hihgly recommended for it's modest price tag.

This is sick. AN automatic chrono for 500. That's awesome.
It's like a cross between an iWC and a speedy.
**** there's so many potential watches I can get this summer. Two cheaper ones or a lumtec or magrette or vintage omega cosmic.
Decisions decisions. Ill have to just wait.Snatch: 122
