Im up around 50 pounds since I started college.
Background - my metabolism was in the ****ter, Ive learned, from before. I was going on for 6 months at home eating a calorie-limit diet of around 1200-1500. I spoke to a personal trainer and a nutritionist and they said that really screwed my metabolism up in the short run AND long run (despite that I was still losing about 2 pounds a week, and looking damn good when I was around 250). the nutritionist wanted me to get my thyroid tested, and I did. Bloodwork came back within an hour when I went to the ER for something else (I was like hey, since youre sampling my blood, can you sample it for thyroid issues), and they said bloodwork was fine.
So you got the start of sophomore year in college, you got the crippled metabolism, and a seemingly ok thyroid system.
I went from around 250 to 270ish in 3 weeks, which I guess is a big deal but not too bad, and after, I went from 270 to 305ish in another 3 weeks, averaging about 12 pounds a week...My personal trainer said that even if Im eating a ****load, Id have to be eating around 9k to 10k calories. If I was eating that much, then I would honestly probably be sitting on the toilet crapping diarrhea or puking, which im not. I have felt no urge to throw up besides drinking toooooo much cold water. He thinks if I had a normal metabolism, then I would be gaining no more than 5 pounds a week. I never feel full, as I told the dietician and personal trainer that, and they both think that COULD be a physical problem but since my thyroid checks out, it could be a mental issue.
So can anyone tell me what the hell is wrong!? I mean, Im drinking plenty of water, I would be releasing all the retained water, right? If Im having bowel movements almost thrice a day, typically with loose stools, then shouldnt the weight be dropping? I dont get it.
I know I obviously cant eat this much but I never knew it would get THIS bad, THIS fast......

Its kind of hard to know...
Since I eat at the cafeteria, I only have 2 meal swipes a day. Typically these are very big meals..... like today for breakfast, I think I had a total of 8 relatively normal scoops of ice cream, probably around 20 give or take a few pieces of bacon, a cup of eggs, and thats that. For lunch / dinner I had two 1-footlong spicy italian subs.
Using a net calculator, two of those contains about 2800 calories total. About 50 cals per bacon, saying Ill have 25 on the upper limit, a scoop of eggs Ill guess is around a cup, around 370. Lets say theres 150 per scoop. My math is coming otu to be..1250+2800+370+1200 = 5620 calories, with room for error.
That was today, and I think that would represent a relatively well day for me. Going to the cafeteria Id probably hit around 7000 calories.

^^lawl strong fulk...
Actually I think it's not so weird...
Just for example:
Let's say ur maintance is like 3000kcal, and u stated u eat in the range of 6-7k kcal daily. That leaves you with 4000 surplus daily, so in 6 weeks you would gain about 45pounds, and i'm guessing alot of other gain is water.Last edited by razer1; 10-10-2011 at 11:44 PM.

How is this confusing?
You're eating a ton, and gaining weight as a result. Even if your maintenance is a healthy 3-3.5k, which is sounds to be at your age/weight/activity level, a 7000 day is still a 3500calorie surplus, which is enough for 1lb of fat on paper.PRs - Sq / B / D / Total
